In Cork Ireland on St Patrick's Day a clash between a Free State band and Republican extremists ended with one musician killed and two band members wounded. Police and military personnel intervened to quell the disturbance as gunfire erupted during the holiday celebration.
At Princeton High School the Salvation Army led by Colonel Jack Addis from Chicago spoke on prison services and rehab. Captain Westbrook and Adjutant Williams from the local unit attended. a 3 pm Sunday lecture at the Noble Theater titled Modern Miracles was announced.
A probate court suit filed Thursday by Sterling Construction seeks a receiver for Ven-dome Theater Co. The complaint lists C Howard Crane, Ee G Kichler, Cyril F E Schley, Detroit Structural Steel Co, International Steel and Iron Co, and Scarborough Davies Co as involved. The Third and Sycamore site and its building and supplies are valued at 100000 dollars. The articles have depreciated due to weather and poor conditions and court action would decide the property in a project where work has halted for months.
Alicetown Players take early round wins in a tournament opener. Cutler shows uneven form while Franklin and Bedford struggle to shine.

Chicago, March 17. Mrs Emme Abrahamson shot her sleeping husband, lit a match to check death, dressed, and surrendered. She said years of abuse and her husband’s wish for a child drove her to kill, adding she is not sorry.
Williamport Indiana reports Ralph Ross found not guilty of murdering Claude Ross after 17 hours of deliberation. The jury ruled Ross acted in self defense during the incident in which Claude allegedly assaulted Mrs. Ross. The mother attended court and wept as the verdict was read.
Indianapolis March 7 A nationwide coal strike will begin April 7. William Green secretary treasurer of the United Mine Workers said the move is unreservedly the union's. He blamed mine owners for not meeting workers in the state wage conference and defended the six hour day five day week demand to equalize work and provide more employment at the current wage.
Detroito automobile heir Marehaz JohnTrivi Dodge son of the late JohnL Dodge was sentenced to five days in the house of correction and fined 180 by Judge Charles L Bartleth after admitting he drove 238 miles per hour three over the limit. His license may be revoked for a year and he faces a $10 000 damage suit from Gustin wed in behalf of 12 year old newsboy Wdavin Scluita.
In Wendallville Pad March 17 police report four deaths from contaminated food at Lakeside hospital. Four victims remain critical or improved with no further deterioration since Tuesday afternoon.
Colonel Addis of Chicago led a splendid Salvation Army service at the citadel last night and spoke to high school pupils this morning. A crowning service is planned next Sunday afternoon at the Noble theater where Colonel Addis will deliver his lecture Modern Miracles. Public invited to attend.
A petition will be filed with the public service commission in the coming days to authorize a physical connection between Princeton and Gibson county telephones. If approved, the Independent will assume the Bell company’s local business after plant valuations, with actual consolidation likely around July.
Anthracite operators and miners resumed joint wage conference in New York as operators reject the miners demand for a 20 percent wage rise and an eight hour day. They counter with a reduced proposal while sub committees prepare to negotiate for about six weeks, delaying any contract agreement past April 10.

The county W C U Institute opens this afternoon at the First Baptist Church with a strong turnout. Mrs Cammack-Gibson leads the Gibson County institute and will oversee sessions through Saturday including a matrons medal contest led by Mrs Sherman Coates. Three Saturday sessions are scheduled at 10 am 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm with talks, songs, and continued programs.
A flag dedication and raising were held at Mt. Olympus High School to honor Roscoe Nixon, a former student who died of influenza at Camp Taylor, Louisville, Kentucky. Nixon's parents presented a flag in memory of their son as students participated in the ceremony.
The unidentified black man found hanged at River Side Park near Indianapolis may be George Tompkins of Frankfort Kentucky. He arrived about two years ago and was last seen alive near the park before his body was found dangling from a sapling. Police described a rough scene as crowds passed by and no suspects were named.
The Men's Club of the First Presbyterian church will hear Harry R. Laugher of Greenfield speak on The Cause of Crime Monday night. Laugher, a former chautauqua speaker and head of a Michigan penal institution, will discuss how the club can help prevent crime. Dinner at 6:30 in the church dining room, organized by the Thaus trial society led by Mrs. Joseph Kurtz. open to all men.
Senators during the four power Pacific pact debate traded charges over propaganda costs. Senator France alleged very large sums, perhaps as much as five million dollars, were spent to sway opinion. Senators Willig and Pomerene pressed for facts but lacked confirmation.
Indiana officials reveal county poor asylums in Daviess and Gibson counties as the state's poorest in a state board of charities report. The findings were released publicly in Indianapolis.
Galesburg on March 17 reports a through express car robbery attempt on Santa Fe train No. 7. A Williamsfield agent notified authorities after packages were found along the right of way. Henry Johnson, a colored man, was arrested in Galesburg while two white men fled at Chillicothe.
