The U S Supreme Court heard arguments on the constitutionality of the Prohibition amendment and related sections of the Volstead Act. Rhode Island led the case seeking validation and enforcement, with New Jersey to join and Elihu Root filing for the United States Brewers Association opposing dismissal and urging invalidation.
The state indoor rifle matches begin at 10 am on the indoor range at the State Armory. Teams from Princeton, Bedford, Terre Haute, Fort Wayne, Culver, Goldsmith, Greentown, Newville, Cromwell and Indianapolis compete for state honors as prep for outdoor trials. A canceled check dated twenty nine years ago, drawn on the Howard National Bank of Kokomo by the Kokomo Gas Company and payable to John Heins, was found on West Superior Street. The check’s long absence remains a mystery.
Oliver P Morton of Princeton Transfer Co suffered a severe accident when his right thumb was torn off after it became caught in a horse halter and the horse jolted. The socket was opened and tendons severed. surgeons closed the wound with three stitches after amputation. He was taken to Methodist hospital and resided on Rast Walnut street.
Detroit Reds held at Fort Wayne have been on a hunger strike for two days. More than 200 alleged radicals are involved. The action followed tightened federal visitor regulations and the escape of five men. Strikers refused to stoke prison boilers.
Washington March 10. The senate takes up article 10 and the question on which the upcoming presidential campaign could hinge. If a compromise is reached it would signal surrender of principles both sides claim to be vital, and no senator predicted how the party split would be bridged.

The opinion upholds both the constitutional amendment and the Volstead Act, contrasting with a Milwaukee ruling that found the opposite view. The decision notes that at the time the amendment was proposed more than two thirds of states had declared the liquor ban unlawful.
A missing horse and buggy from a Francisco man sparked a city chase that ended when Herbert King found the rig at the exchange barn and Sheriff Flowers, unaware of the swap, had it stored there. The owner later recovered the animal, while friends claim the sheriff was the butt of the joke.
Grand Rapids, Mich March 10 Henry Ford's war record was thoroughly discussed today at the Newberry trial here Ford's name was frequently mentioned. Following a luncheon with Col Harvey of New York Newberry according to evidence wrote Harvey had a great deal of information regarding Ford which cannot be made public at this time. This information shows Ford's connection with pro German influences reaching into high places. Harvey says Ford is not only a national but an international menace. The strongest forces in the government are trying to keep these facts quiet Newberry told King. The Newberry committee worked hard for the railroad men's vote.
A Chihuahua City dispatch says the Arab merchant captured when bandits dynamited a train last Thursday was murdered by his captors. Joseph Williams, an American held for ransom, was being taken toward the Dangango mountains.
Miss Sasie Gray and Thomas Edward Vainey wed today at 2 00 PM in Squire Morton s office. They reside in Oakland City and plan to make their home there.
Grand Rapids Mich March 10 Truman H Newberry former Senate candidate and navy lieutenant commander collapsed under strain during the Newberry election conspiracy trial as witnesses including Paul H King and James W Helme faced cross examination. King may resume Thursday. Helme pledged to testify and conduct his own examination in a dramatic courtroom moment.
