In St Louis on March 10 seven bodies were recovered from the Missouri Athletic Club ruins. Firemen, aided by a searchlight, reported finding eleven charred bodies wedged between walls, but later could not locate them. Weeping women and a morbid crowd watched while workers cleared debris.
Two more bodies were recovered from the fire ruins at noon today, raising the death toll to nine. The victims remain unidentified as authorities continue to search the scene.
Horace P. Owen former president of the New Harmony Centennial Commission and the New Harmony Banking Company died at his home in New Harmony March 9 at 10 p.m. He was 71, a Civil War veteran, and died of arterial hardening. Survived by wife, two daughters Mrs. Arthur Armstrong and Mrs. Aline Neal, and son Richard Dale Owen of Los Angeles. His son arrived from Los Angeles earlier that day.
A meeting of the Centennial Association will be held Tuesday evening at 7:45 in the county superintendent’s office. Reports from several committees will be presented and parade details are expected to be settled.
