March 9 report quotes Dr. Edward Oswald of Glasgow Royal Asylum noting rising insanity among women as they take greater roles in work. He says professional women bear most strain while working-class women show fewer breakdowns with more teachers and students admitted to asylums.
Indianapolis March 3 The American Legion urges enactment of legislation to prove government fairness to ex service men and to the nation alike. National commander Franklin Koiler spoke at the Legion's stance during a briefing on soldier benefits law. He announced a special national executive committee meeting set for March 22 in Washington and noted the new publication board for the American Legion Weekly.
The Rose Pastor Stokes case, convicted in Missouri federal court of espionage act violations, was remanded for a new trial by the United States Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis.
Thoms Taggart withdraws his name from the Indiana Senatorial race as a Democratic candidate. He cites ill health and inability to endure the campaign as his reason, leaving the nomination decision to the state convention in May.

Washington March 9 The league question hangs the treaty fight as senators from both parties discuss Wilson’s letter to Hitchcock. Botsou and Hitchcock see the issue clearly drawn and expect the campaign to hinge on it while negotiating bipartisan reservations to Article 10. Republican leaders say the letter keeps the issue sharp as they want it.
A Berlin dispatch to Le Journal says the German government will hand to the allies in May a new memorandum insisting on a loan of 45,000,000,000 marks. The memorandum will also seek modification of rules governing the allied occupation and dispatch aids.
A threatened railway strike in Chicago was averted as maintenance men and shop workers joined other railroad unions. The 400,000 member grand lodge vote decision remains undisclosed as wage demand proposals go to the president's commission along with other unions.
The City Council seeks reader letters on the North side sewer. The Democrat will publish opinions under the Editor’s head daily with letters signed A Reader. Submit reasons for or against the sewer in a short, pointed note.

A telegram says a state tax board representative will visit Princeton next Tuesday to hear Gibson county residents on building a Memorial coliseum for patriots of the late war. Trustees and others will likely arrange the public meeting with details to be announced in newspapers.
After a year in Princeton the Salvation Army’s Lt R A Morris is promoted to Captain for faithful service in city outreach and unseen work. He hopes to remain in Princeton another year if divinely willed.

The club members heading to Indianapolis are those with the highest general indoor averages. The Indianapolis match is directed by Adjutant General Harry B. Smith.
Seven patients at the state hospital for epileptics in Columbus were suffocated in a fire yesterday. The blaze cut off victims from the stairway as flames and smoke filled the building. The state board of administration released the report today confirming the tragedy.
In Trenton New Jersey on March 9 federal Judge Rellstab refused to renew a preliminary injunction against federal authorities allowing the sale of 2.75 beer.
Senator William Block of West Virginia departed by special train at noon today to rally five women suffrage supporters and break a legislative deadlock. His wife objected to air travel, so the senator chose the train over an airplane to reach the state.
