An executive body reports miners are voting overwhelmingly for a strike with ballots nearly unanimous in favor of walkout on April first unless a new scale is signed. The government seeks a conference with operators to resolve the dispute.
President Harding asks Secretary Davis to press miners and operators to meet in conference to honor the two year old agreement. Miners in the central bituminous field vote this week on a strike April first if demands from the sewage scale committee are not met, with unions nationwide reportedly favoring a walkout. The government seeks to avert action. unions install emergency plans while awaiting results and possible changes to wage and hour terms.
Int l Mar. 7 report shows miners near Cisetly and the Large mine in the world voting about 90 percent for a strike in April with minimal opposition. Evansville and Bruceville areas report high support though some mines did not vote. Vanderburg and Warrick counties show similar trends with strong majorities voting for strikes.
Cincinnati March 7 Eddie Roush outfielder for the National League club failed to sign a contract after a brief talk with president Herrmann at the main offices. A second conference is planned for tomorrow. Roush warned he would return to Oakland if no deal is reached. Louis Fonseca, who signed earlier, will leave for Minnesota tomorrow.

Robert S. Cushman son of Dr R A Cushman of Princeton Ind was initiated into the DePauw Chapter of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity on Saturday evening March 4. He is a student at DePauw University.

A storm and tornado struck western South Carolina causing six deaths and about 40 injuries. Warrensville and Stifleton cotton mill towns reported extensive property damage with 25 houses destroyed. Relief teams were sent with medical aid and food as wire service lines were cut and towns faced high losses.
Herbert Hartman, GOP police judge candidate, was acquitted by a jury of receiving stolen goods in Indianapolis. He collapsed when the verdict was read. He still faces four charges including alleged illegal operations and further counts of receiving stolen goods.
