Gil bert Calvert leads as esteemed leading knight with Elza D Zimmerman as loyal knight and H Lynn Lucas as lecturing knight. Others elected include E Rollin Maxam as secretary Frank M Harris as treasurer Herbert Slayton as tiler John R Dorsey as trustee and Roy P King as delegate to the grand lodge.
Mrs W. 5 Stilwell of Evansville visits her parents Mr and Mrs W J Lowe. H C Bucklin foreman of The Democrat is sick at his home north of Seminary street.
The Farm Engineering Course drew a large crowd as speakers covered lubrication carburation and ignition. Dr W E Taylor praised County Agent Marshall and Purdue University for their work while urging farmers to maximize production to support the war effort and defend democracy.
Leslie Wheeler of Patoka has passed the civil service exam and is appointed mail carrier on route 24 west of Patoka. He is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Hitch of East Warnock Street and is widely respected.

Women’s clubs in Princeton gather to provide 100 housewives kits for Camp Stiel soldiers of Gibson County. Each outfit costs about 75 cents and contains scissors needles pins safety pins thread and other sewing items. Chaplain Arthur of the 152nd Indiana regiment offers services to distribute the kits and ensure every Gibson County boy is supplied.
A Princeton chamber committee advances a tomato canning plant this season. Widespread pledges ride tomato acres, with 156 acres already available near town and growers ready to rent land. The Salvation Army plans a special service at the Army hall on East Broadway. Four local citizens who have signed the Articles of War will be enrolled as members of the Salvation Army Corps in Princeton. The public is invited to attend.
Four year old Nicely Camp daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Camp fractured her elbow Wednesday afternoon when she fell from a kitchen cabinet while climbing. She endured sharp pain but was resting better Thursday.
A coal mine will be opened on the Kays farm near Hazleton to supply local consumers. A recent test found a four foot thick coal vein 42 feet below the surface and shaft sinking is planned for summer with mining expected by early fall.

Hog receipts 6500 with prices 17.75 to 18.10, steers 9.50 to 13.75, cows and heifers 9.50 to 11.25, sheep 11.00 to 15.76.
A number of young people gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Clarence Wilkins in South Hall Street to surprise their son Curtis on his nineteenth birthday with ice cream and cake. The Loyal Woman's Class at Broadway Christian Church hosted a farewell surprise for Mrs Meyers, who with her husband plans to move to California. The Woman's Missionary Society of Patoka Methodist Church visited Miss Misele Sibert in Patoka and held a social gathering with a pleasant day and a shared dinner.
Henry Riley Jr. was found guilty of assault and battery with intent to kill by a circuit court jury. He was fined 50 dollars plus costs after the Thursday morning verdict. The case involved Jonathan Byers as the alleged victim.
Mrs. K. P. Morgan returns from Deadwood to visit son H. M. Morgan and family on West Emerson Street. Mrs. William Volkman and Miss Gertrude Volkman from Francisco are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cullen on North Main Street.
Mr and Mrs Francis Giocca of Raca Street welcome a fine eleven pound son born Thursday morning. The child has been named Charles William. The father is a well known local repairer in the shops.
Elks lodge authorized a contract with the Redpath company for this season's chautauqua. Miss Lyons presented the plan and a Wilson message urging wholesome entertainment. The program includes a trench speaker, Dr. Saansaul, opera, a jazz band, and a noted vocalist with no ticket price rise. Proceeds will support a war fund yet to be determined.
Chas A. Niemeier, veteran grocer with two West State street shops, opens Liberty Market in the former William Mowry Printing shop on East Pine street. Forl Kennedy will manage the new cash and carry store, offering a complete groceries line for north end patrons seeking convenience.
Miss Gertrude Spencer and Hazel Spencer Irene Cockriel with Mrs Hattie Folty traveled to Branaville on Thursday afternoon for Lockyear's Business College graduation exercises. Mr and Mrs John Olds of Francis Co are visiting the city as guests of Mr and Mrs Grant Tooley.
