Mrs. John Lightfoot sister in law of Mrs. E Noble died at her Terre Haute home after a long illness. Mrs. Noble and her daughters Mrs. Joseph Cleston and Miss Wilma are in Terre Haute to attend the funeral.
The W C T U will meet Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs J Critchfield on South Race Street. All members are invited to attend the meeting.
In Washington on March 7 President Wilson secured two decisive preliminaries in the house against Rep McLemore’s resolution to warn Americans off armed ships. The first vote 256 to 160 and the second 271 to 138 kept the administration on track to table or amend the measure.
London dispatch reports the crown prince army tightening the grip around Verdun with simultaneous right and left wing assaults. Paris confirms Hill 265 near Regnieville fell after a brutal bombardment as German forces press the front with high intensity.
Gibson county's primary election proceeded quietly with turnout near 50 percent expected. In Patoka township about 575 of an estimated 1,500 votes were cast by 2 30 pm, with Republicans seen as the strongest group due to high profile races. Democrats and progressives trailed, while voters appeared familiar with primary rules and no disturbances were reported.
The World publishes an extended expose alleging pro German influence in Congress. It names Alphonse G Koelble as alliance head and T L Marsalis as leading lobbyist, and claims the program includes passport bans for belligerent ships, embargo on contraband, and blocking Fed from war loans to belligerents. It further claims aims to control the Republican convention and defeat Wilson.

Still in jail late this afternoon was George W. White, alleged assailant of eight year old Mabel Whiteson, after a guns claim and bond set in county court. White remained in custody while authorities continued investigation into the Sunday morning incident.

The Indiana Republican primary scene shows three way fights for U S senator and governor with rivalries intensifying as parties prepare for preferential votes. Costs exceed 100000 for campaigns and ballots, while Fairbanks remains unopposed for president in Hoosier ranks.
The joint sub-committee of arthracite miners and operators deferred tomorrow's session to Wednesday afternoon to allow miners to compress negotiations with bituminous employers. Indiana operators consent to raise machine mining rates to 5.236 cents per ton and add 3 cents to Bick coal, totaling 64 cents per ton. An advance of 5 percent on dead work and yardage is also approved. Miners drop demands for eight hour days weekly pay days and alternate Saturdays off as talks progress. The sub-committee will finalize contract length and means to settle differences before the full conference reports.
City council meeting Monday night produced little action aside from a resignation. Policeman Jake Shuel will leave March 16 for new work. Treasurer’s report shows uneven bank fund distribution with bids fairness questioned by Councilman Harris. Funds listed include Peoples American 8400 and Farmers 1200 three Citizens 1100. Action referred to mayor and finance committee.
A large gathering attended the Tuesday afternoon funeral at the Shull family home for George Shull. Rev Golden A. Smith led the simple service at First Methodist. Burial followed in Genung Cemetery with Grand Army Post members of Princeton in attendance.
Mrs Catherine Beck aged 79 died at 440 oclock Tuesday morning at her home 228 North Race Street after a long illness paralysis listed as cause of death. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2739 oclock from the family residence conducted by Rev Morris Watson United Presbyterian Church with interment in Warnock Cemetery.
In Terre Haute a melee at the 6th ward precinct near the red light district led to shootings during voting. John Jordan and Sylvester Jordan were arrested after a fight with Rogers in Marion county jail. Rogers was hospitalized, possibly dying. Edward Hoth, former police chief, also faces issues as threats surface involving Isaac Harris and others amid election turmoil.
Mrs. Thomas Shea and her daughter Rose of Mattoon Illinois have returned home after visiting Mrs. Daniel Shine on East Water Street. The Cosmos Club will meet at the Kidd Hotel with Mrs. O M Kolb. Mrs. Charles Hebert will hold the paper of the afternoon.
