Man Charged With Attempted Criminal Assault on Girl
George W. White, 63, proprietor of the Star hotel and former grocer, was arrested at 9 o clock Sunday morning on a charge of attempting criminal assault on Mabel White, eight, of Lincoln avenue. The incident occurred in a rear alley toilet beside the William Hall grocery on State street. the girl was unharmed. White pled not guilty at Circuit court and bail was set at 1000 dollars. The girl, who planned to attend Sunday school, described White pulling her into the alley and kissing her, with a prior incident witnessed nearby. Police say the evidence shows depraved intent. White has lived in Princeton, ran a Ward block grocery, then the Star hotel. his wife is deceased and his two daughters run the hotel. The girl is not related to the accused.
