Harold Fox a 10 year old newspaper carrier delivering in the coal mine area faced two masked robbers who ordered him to surrender his pocketbook and papers. He complied and the thieves fled. the incident left subscribers without their Monday evening papers.
President Wilson departs for France after a Washington standstill as Senate Republicans led by Lodge threaten to refuse ratification of the peace treaty with the League of Nations. A 37 senator Round Robin challenges his covenant plans, signaling a political clash ahead of the Paris peace talks.
President Wilson declares in Washington that obstruction by a senate group harms government efficiency and imperils railway finances while he will attend the Paris peace conference. He says he cannot call a special session and expects those blocking legislation to bear responsibility for the impaired finances during his absence.
The 65th congress died at noon as a final senate panel ended a lengthy speech by Senator Sherman blocking business in a tumultuous session. Senate crowds watched the closing hours while President Wilson did not sign last minute bills. The last act involved clerks for house members and a rushed resolution amid delays.
The county commissioners appointed D. S. W. Miller justice of the peace to fill the vacancy created by Justice-elect William McClure. Miller previously served as justice of the peace until his term expired earlier this year and will reopen at his former East Broadway location. The Tourist club meets Wednesday at 2 30 with Mrs W Welborn.
