County clerk figures show only eleven marriage licenses issued in February, down from 2% in January. Experts predict a spring rebound as birds sing and flowers bloom, with Cupid expected to resume activity.
Terre Haute attorneys representing Terre Haute Indianapolis and Eastern Traction workers filed with the Public Service Commission to strike out proceedings on grievances claimed by a Carmen's union faction. The move signals renewed fights over wage increases as the labor dispute widens.
The petition states 60 percent of Terre Haute Indianapolis and Eastern Railway workers are represented by petitioners who claim an agreement with company officials satisfies 80 percent of employees. It notes the then grievance committee represented a minority and that wage scales have remained the same as on Indianapolis street car lines. Lawyer M L Clawson protests the company’s action to Governor Raiston, calling it a bid to push employees to accept less than Indianapolis Carmen received in February.
The street committee and Board of Health report prompts council to authorize city attorney to draft petitions and ordinances for a new storm drainage outlet on the south side near the Southern shop grounds. Plans include an open dredge ditch with involvement from the Southern railway, with preliminary steps to begin and a four year lease for adjacent park land set at five dollars per acre.
A Grand Trunk passenger train collided with a Wabash freight train in Chicago inbound today injuring four seriously. Brakeman James Breen suffered a fractured skull and may die while switchman Marely Burns had a crushed left leg. Two Chicago residents Mrs J B Jump and Mrs F A Funkington were bruised. Officials cited late arrivals and possible speeding as factors and noted steel coaches reduced fatalities.
Sheriff Barton arrested James Lucas and Clyde Hardaman on robbery charges after a Sunday assault on Alex Hardaman. Both were arraigned. Hardaman freed on 250 bond signed by Horace Hardaman, Lucas jailed pending bond. Trial dates set for Lucas on March 21. Hardaman’s date not set.
Benjamin Sanders, a respected farmer near Lyle's station, died at his home at 9 o'clock Monday night after weeks with Bright's disease. He was 62, and is survived by his widow three daughters Mrs. Bessie Alffelt of Mt. Carmel Mrs. Iva Barnes of this city Miss Faye Sanders and five sons Walter Charles Frank Gus and Clyde, all of this city. No funeral arrangements have been announced.
In Indianapolis on March 3 George Marshall 43 and Dudley Morgan 64 set out for whisky but found a bottle containing a deadly toxin. They drank a small amount and collapsed. both men were later found by Mrs Marshall and rushed to a city hospital where doctors say the danger point has passed but the exact cause remains unclear.

A gorge of ice formed in the Patoka River north of Lyle's station was broken up with dynamite last Saturday under Township Trustee S. F. Braselton. The blast relieved a dam that had backed water and flooded banks, with roads in the area badly washed. latest reports say the ice gorge was blown apart and water is flowing freely.
