Herman Myer twenty employed at the Hotel Kidd manitorium plunged through a skylight in the Baldwin building on West Broadway Wednesday afternoon landing about twenty feet below. He lay unconscious over an hour before regaining consciousness and was treated for a severed ear and facial injuries.
William P. McQuade superintendent of the Indian Creek coal mine was found guilty by a Knox circuit court jury and fined 300 dollars and costs for violating a state law requiring free washhouses for miners. About fifteen miners testified the Indian Creek Mining Company charged one dollar a month for washhouse use, with fifty cents deducted from wages biweekly, and that a petition for a free washhouse was presented to McQuade. The mine, Knox county’s largest, employs around 470 men and the washhouse cost 3,000 dollars to build, with revenue from charges described as making the investment profitable.

R. D. Dowdle a machine operator residing on Hart Street at Princeton mine was seriously injured while working Thursday when a heavy slate edge fell from a machine, crushing his right hand and nearly severing two fingers.
W. E. Stewart, about 28, a driver at the Princeton mine living at 1 North West Street, was electrocuted Thursday afternoon after 3 o clock. He was removed from the mine and resuscitation attempts failed. Officials cannot explain the accident as his duties did not place him near trolley wires. He is survived by his wife and one child after the family moved from Oakland City.
The English government issued proclamations declaring all eligible bachelors and widows as soldiers under the new conscription act. Machinery for enforcement was set in motion as groups begin to be drafted with the first nine called up by March 15.

Berlin dispatch reports Germany prepared to declare war on receipt of an unsatisfactory reply to the demand for release of seized German ships. In Lisbon, sixty German colony members flee to Spain as Portugal reportedly refuses the demand and closes most German businesses.
The post office department will establish a new motor rural route serving Princeton starting about June 1. The route will stretch approximately 55 miles, much longer than ordinary carrier routes, and its exact path has yet to be prescribed with inspectors to determine the layout soon.
The Big Four wrecking crew will attempt to raise the engine of the Big Four passenger train that sank during the Knox County approach collapse to the St Francisville bridge in the flood. Engineer Frank Lancaster and Fireman Oliver Hazelton drowned in the incident. The engine lies in a deep water-filled hole and was being pumped out today in Mt. Carmel.
