Ten negroes died and eleven were injured as a blaze engulfed an old tenement in Chicago's black belt. Firefighters faced crowds rushing to rescue relatives while occupants fought to be saved, with women and children seen at upper windows and ladders knocked aside amid the panic.
Director Arthur Dragov of the Princeton band announces the first concert of the season to be held Friday evening at 7 30 in the south side court house yard where the stand is being erected. The program lists marches overtures waltzes solos and a male quartet with pieces by Dragoo Karol Chareh and others.
The Consumers' Power Company, serving Oakland City, is building a service line to Somerville Mackey and Buckskin with poles set and right of way cleared. It may extend to Boonville. Evansville Indiana youth Roy C Musgrave aged 18 was fatally shot in a pistol duel with St Louis police after being accosted with a companion John S Smith. Musgrave later died at the city hospital from multiple wounds. The body was brought home to Henderson Kentucky for burial.

An ammonia release at Horace Hitch Meat Market on the East side of the square injured meat cutter Cherence Dicker and knocked down Dickey, who escaped with chemical burns. A 10 inch diameter cylinder burst, gases filled the area, and Dickey, aided by a gas mask, shut off valves and stayed until fumes cleared. Meat was not spoiled and no extensive damage to the carcass area occurred.
The Y M C A opened the first recreation camp of its kind near Bedford Indiana for boys. The parade led by R J Duke headed to the four mile south site on the White River with cottages waterworks and rustic bridges. Hi Y clubs from Columbus Seymour Lynn and Bedford participated as reservations fill for summer sessions statewide.
