The Illinois Supreme Court ruled the state primary act of 1919 unconstitutional, restoring the 1913 primary amendment. In London, Ambassador Charles W. Davis said he is not seeking the Democratic nomination but would accept it if offered.
Mt Carmel Illinois June 16 chief of police Jd M Bunn shot and killed F E Slanker a Big Four locomotive engineer on a city street after a quarrel. Slanker died within minutes from two bullets. Bunn surrendered and was moved to an out of county jail for safety. Slanker leaves a wife and adopted son. Bunn has a wife and three years in office.
A mob hanged three black circus roustabouts in Duluth after a 17 year old white girl alleged assault. A priest pleaded for release as state troops restored calm. two other suspects were acquitted. The incident followed a mock jail trial and no further violence occurred.
A 9 oclock Thursday meeting at city hall led by J Edgar Burton assistant secretary of the Hoosier Automobile association invites Princeton motorists to organize the Gibson County Motor club. Attendees include Alva Levi Claude A Smith Stuart T Fisher Rollin Maxam John C Gorman John T Ballard and many others to complete affiliation with the Hoosier state association and the American Automobile association.
In a home birth at 8 1/2 pounds, a baby girl named Mildred Ruth Ping was born to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice I. Ping on South Gibson Street.
Representatives of the White River Improvement association met at Washington Tuesday to form the White River Valley Flood Association with Nathan Killion as permanent chair and W D Curll as permanent secretary. The group plans an executive and legislative committee and to mobilize landowners in the overflow zone to combat annual floods, urging farmer participation to push flood relief legislation.
Two additional defendants in the Evansville whisky ring pleaded guilty in federal court in AndeanaplIs. John Haynes of Evansville and boatman John Burns admitted guilt as the government rested its case. Judge Anderson discharged two defendants, leaving fourteen of seventy-eight to stand trial, as Chief Edgar Schmidt began his defense.

Mrs. Julia Twoney age 89 visiting her sister Mrs. Emma Stewart on Race Street suffered a stroke of paralysis Wednesday morning at 7 30 on the front porch awaiting breakfast. Her condition this afternoon is serious and recovery is not expected. Mrs Twoney lives with her son in Louisville and was visiting for the first time in years. Also, Misses Gladys and Leona Gerber of Jasper planned to visit Miss Mazel Grimm on East Monroe Street Wednesday. In Montreal Kansas industrial court condemned as a machine for confiscation of liberty by the American Federation of Labor urging support for Kansas workers to appeal the law.

Mrs Alfred Broadhurst, wife of a deaf shoemaker, attempted suicide by leaping into a well after her husband beat her during a Norris City Eldorado baseball game. Rescued as crowd intervened. police restrained the husband. The woman is deaf mute and has endured repeated abuse, with locals urging an end to the violence.
Lawrence Coley of 117 South Main Street was seriously injured when his left hand was crushed in a printing press at The Democrat's plant on East Broadway. The first two fingers were severely crushed as he attempted to print calling cards after midnight while unsupervised.

Coroner C F Diefendorf began an inquiry into the death of Margaret Weigand 24 of 1174 Third avenue alleging an illegal operation preceded her death. Autopsy held with secrecy as witnesses to be questioned. arrests possible. Mrs Mary Weigand grandmother died recently. Miss Weigand worked in a Main Street millinery shop and was famed as an expert milliner. She leaves parents and several sisters.
Washington reports the Sixty-sixth Congress ended June 5 with an appropriation of about 5 billion dollars. The final figure is 4.8599 billion, of which 4.3733 billion covers government expenses for the new fiscal year and 486.5 million covers deficiencies. Estimates for next year were cut by 1.474 billion, with two measures exceeding the forecast. Pension and postal bills were raised by 64.12 million and 70.861 million respectively to fund higher pensions and postal wages.
In San Francisco on June 16, Jack Dempsey the heavyweight champion and his manager Jack Kearns were cleared of conspiracy to evade the draft law as the remaining indictments against them were quashed in federal court.
