The News Republic reports that with sixteen Democratic representatives the minority blocks the Republican majority by holding quorum. For a week the house was nearly unable to transact business due to missing Republicans. Absences forced adjournments and republicans consider telegrams to summons members back.
Chester F. Ping of this city and a member of the American Legion Bost received a bronze Medal from the War Department by registered letter this morning. The award bears Marine Corps colors and a certificate praising obedience, sobriety, industry, courage, cleanliness and proficiency. Ex-Marine Ping is proud of the record.
London reports the British government fears troop ships bound for Ireland will be sunk and moves are kept secret. Inquiry revealed additional troops are en route including the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

John L. Lewis president of the United Mine Workers issues a formal order demanding all unauthorized strikers return to work. The directive was sent to striking locals in Indiana and Illinois and cites President Wilson's request and his authority as national UMW president. Meetings are to be convened to ensure compliance.
The Princeton Light & Power Company petitions for valuation and rate fixes for its heating utility and for a temporary electric rate increase. A hearing is scheduled for Friday August 13, 2020 at 2 pm in the courthouse in Princeton Indiana before Commissioner Haynes.

Federal Prohibition agents seize what is believed to be Georgia’s largest moonshine operation, combining 500 and 400 gallon outfits. The raid occurred at Blue Springs near Starkville. one white man and a Black man fled into a swamp, one Black man was arrested.
Montevideo hosts the world congress of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union in December 1922 after approval by President Brum who favored Montevideo as the venue. The decision follows a meeting with union representatives and Brum’s suggestion of the dates.
Philadelphia July 31 A development in Bergdoll cases the surrender of Harry G Schuh chauffeur for Erwin K Bergdoll the millionaire draft dodger indicted June 29 with others on conspiracy to harbor and aid escape bail set at 10000 Mrs Emma C Bergdoll accompanied Schuh to the federal building and furnished bail.
Mr and Mrs Allen Smith express gratitude to friends neighbors and ministers for kindness sympathy during the illness and death of their son Lewis Smith and for the flowers they received.

Key acts include remedial tax legislation to undo 1919 assessment changes, a home rule tax bill empowering local units on bonds and levies, an emergency appropriation of roughly 1.2 million dollars, and a war memorial building project of 2.01 million dollars on state land. The session also passed a blue sky law to curb unscrupulous securities sales.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Paul of South Prince street returned from Los Angeles where they experienced the second quake in a series. Residents fled as streets oil springs broke through pavement after their departure, and city officials plan large oil cisterns to retain street oil for paving use.

W G Lee president of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen said membership is rising, with Trainmen gaining about 100 to 12 daily along with increases reported by other unions due to higher wages.
George W Guthrie and son Earl with Dan Guthrie and wife depart by car for Jackson County homestead not visited in about forty years. They expect a pleasant trip and visit. On the way they will stop in Indianapolis to visit Mrs Davis daughter of the Guthries. Also Mr and Mrs A M Keck and Mr and Mrs John Stolt of Odon Ind will spend Sunday with W S Hastings.
Queen Mary of England defies Bond Street price tags by purchasing an almost complete wardrobe via a dress agency. Items include an evening gown two coats two walking skirts and an afternoon tea gown costing about thirty dollars per garment.
Indiana began state control of coal today under a new law. The state board of accounts will license coal producers and revoke licenses to shut mines, with Jesse Eschbach as chief examiner and Otto Krauss as secretary. Five thousand copies of the law will be distributed to operators and officials.
A car carrying two men and three women from Tennessee to Moline Illinois went into the ditch near a Hazleton turnabout Friday night. Mrs. H. E. Cooper suffered a scalp wound and minor injuries. she remained hospitalized for medical treatment. The group consisted of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Gordon and Miss Emma Cooper. The crash occurred while attempting to pass a buggy, damaging the car.
George Allen Moss, nine, son of Fire Chief George Moss, suffered a broken left arm and elbow dislocation after falling from a horse at Robert Beck’s home near Inglefield on a Friday. John Beck, riding with him, fell but was uninjured. X rays were taken Saturday morning. the incident involved a double ride. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanna and son Owen Clair returned to Campbellburg, Ind., after a lengthy visit.
