A delegation of twenty cent operators called at the White House today to ask President Wilson to act on the Tlingis gyin.
Naval air station Rockaway reports the C-10 dirigible crashed after a race conflict with Shamrocks IV and Resolute. Commander A W Evans steered the crippled craft to Jamaica Bay, shedding ballast and equipment, then landed nose first but all eight aboard escaped unharmed.
In Owensburg on July 22 a gasoline tank struck by lightning caused a spreading blaze though distant from homes. Simultaneously Walter Tates barn was struck killing a horse. Watermelons were selling at 40 cents each as Steelman park chautauqua opens tomorrow. Walter Bixby family return to Hvansville and Miss Jessie Montgomery of Denver visits. Elder Samuel Hagen visits Terre Haute.
Due to high shipping costs, Petersburg Sanitary Canning Company is urged to open its factory here next Monday to receive this year’s crop. Costs rose from 5 to 15 cents per basket for shipping and express rates nearly doubled, making home canning an attractive option as tomatoes fetch 1.50 to 2.00 dollars per basket. Cantaloupes are ripening and shipping will begin next week. Miss Ethel Jones of Vincennes has returned home after visiting.
Evansville Auto Dealers arrange for the truck train to visit Princeton on Tuesday August 3 for educational demonstrations of motor trucks in farming. No sales will occur. The train will showcase truck efficiency, carry music, and a farm-to-market focus with experts and local committee coordination.
Farmers from Patoka Center Columbia and Barton townships will meet in Fran cis Friday night to plan lime bin stations along regional railways. County Agent Maid will attend along with railroad representatives from Southern C E and E L lines and limestone suppliers. The aim is to allow farmers to buy lime in small quantities for soil improvement year round.
Formal notification dates set for Cox and Roosevelt. Governor Cox will receive on August 7 in Dayton after a conference with campaign manager George White. Roosevelt will be notified August 9 at Hyde Park New York as plans for acceptance speeches are finalized.
