Money has grown in value in this store with a surge in purchases as shoppers find more goods affordable. As the stock clearances wind down, money buys more than in years past across many items, and just a few days remain in July to grab smaller, desired sets at strong value.
Twenty seven Chinese youths were found hidden in a water tank aboard the China Mail liner Nile off San Francisco. Inspectors uncovered them during a search for contraband drugs and liquor. Several were so weak they struggled to stand as they were taken ashore for deportation proceedings.
In Chicago at the Hotel Morrison on July 17 a new Liberal Party emerged from independent progressive groups disaffection with the Farmer Labour party. McCurdy and Judge Wray led the meeting with 54 delegates, banning radicals and excluding La Follette and other forty eight leaders.

Captain St Clair Street commanding the Mineola to Nome expedition failed to depart Scranton as expected after landing there due to fog. Repairs to a broken axle were rushed but not finished. He will take off for Erie tomorrow morning, where the three army airplanes plan to depart for Grand Rapids, Michigan, with No. 1 possibly joining Nos. 2 and 3.
The American Legion memorial committee in St. Louis announced on July 17 that the invitation for Warren G. Harding to speak at the dedication of a soldiers memorial park on July 25 has been rescinded. Harding had initially declined for July 15, then accepted for July 25, later sending a telegram unable to attend that date but hoping to speak another time. A committee member urged notifying Harding that his services would not be needed.
Chicago July 17. A. C. Hatfield, printing shop owner, pleads for help locating his wife whose absence endangers a dying child. Hatfield says they kept a Sunday breakfast routine under an agreement and she left to look for work and a furnished room without leaving an address. He hopes she can see the baby before it dies.
Evansville rumor says either Samuel T. Heston or W. W. Gray will be elected president to replace the late Allen Gray. The board will meet Wednesday, and no definite date or candidate has been discussed. Heston is bank vice president and Gray a director. Miss Bessie Marsh returns to Patol after nurse training in Indianapolis.
The Indiana House passed a bill creating a three member board to fix coal prices and supervise distribution to state institutions by a 68 to 8 vote, with amendments extending the commission to purchase food and other goods. The action follows attacks in the Senate and a threatened extension of the session into next week as Senator Cravens pressed questions about Gov. Goodrich ties to the Lenoir Coal Company and related mines. Next Monday at 2 PM the coal priority bill is set as the session’s special order.

United Press reports that the U S labor board will start hearings July 27 on wage demands from 70 000 railway express employees not covered by rail labor increases to be announced next Tuesday The request seeks a 20 cent an hour raise for general express workers and for express workers on trains the same terms as awarded to trainmen.
Mrs Marion C Richey of Evansville, grandmother of Eddie Roush the Reds center fielder, was granted divorce from Henry C Richey in Vanderburgh circuit court Friday on desertion grounds. She is 68. In same session Samuel Collins won a divorce from Pearl E Collins and custody of their 8 year old son. Attorney Hovey Kirk represented both plaintiffs.
Governor Cox told a National Woman's party delegation that he would dedicate his time and influence to securing ratification of the federal suffrage amendment, urging in Tennessee that voters act conscientiously and not expect votes in exchange for women's rights.
A gospel meeting will be held at the United Brethren church corner and Stormont avenue on Monday July 19. Rev. J. M. Hefige of Tennyson Ind will assist Rev. L. A. Brett. Mise Mand Duncan of Oakland City will be song leader and organist. Everybody invited.
A May 4 1920 analysis shows national bank deposit accounts at 50,389,350, averaging one per five and a half people. Pennsylvania leads with 2,589,697 accounts, New York 1,681,581, and other states over 500,000. Total resources reach $22.04 billion, deposits at $16.92 billion, and capital plus surplus at $2.61 billion.
William J. Bryan or William A. Bryan is pledged for the Prohibition nomination with William Calderwood of Minneapolis arranging the July 21 to 23 national convention in Lincoln Nebraska. A woman may run for Vice President with Mary Harris Armour of Georgia Anna Howard Shaw of New York or Marie C. Brehm of California named as possibilities.
Los Angeles shaken by four severe earthquakes, causing indirect injuries and damage to older buildings. First quake at 10:19 am, followed by three more by 6:30 pm. Public panic ensued with people fleeing outdoors and seeking shelter in Pershing Square.
In Goshen Indiana 4 year old Ralph Miller son of farmer Levi Miller living south of Middlebury died after eating a large amount of Paris Green poison kept at home for potato vine treatment. The incident is reported as a tragic accident.
Virgil Bottoms 15 years old, son of John Bottoms, farmer near Petersburg Indiana, was thrown from a farm horse and then kicked by a saddle horse as he tried to reach a dentist for a toothache. He sustained a broken leg and the toothache was forgotten in the chaos. Mrs. Raymond Wolfe, visiting Mt. Carmel relatives, returned home today.
