The city council held a short meeting on Monday evening approving bills and adjourning without any other business. Officials then left for Lozansport to attend the State Municipal League meeting in session this week.
The Mineola jail medical officer declared Frank Holt who tried to kill himself after being suspected of Muenter links has wrist scars matching those described in the Erich Muenter case. Holt attempted suicide with a lead pencil after a rent of blood was found. officials seek to identify him as the Harvard professor wanted in Cambridge for wife murder.
J P Morgan spoke from Glen Cove this morning to his offices assuring he is out of danger and feeling well. Partners joined in as he discussed general business affairs amid relief at the Morgan firm after yesterday’s announcement of his improved condition.
Petrograd reports a dramatic bombardment defense collapse as General Mackensen wins a temporary victory on a 38 mile front south of Jubin. Austro-German forces shell Slav trenches while Russians retire to new intrenchments near Lubin. Berlin notes a split Russian line near Krasnik and Warsaw remains unthreatened.
California Drug Clerks Association opens its annual convention at the Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Delegates from across the state arrive by special trains as the three day meeting begins with more than 50 000 druggists and drug clerks expected to attend the six July and August conventions.
Mrs John Gauibrel leaves Tuesday for Francisco to stay a few days with her aunt Mrs John Arbuthnot and family.
The funeral of Newton Knight will be held at 29 o clock Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church conducted by Rev Mr Davis of Patoka. Interment will follow at the I O O F cemetery.
The Wallace circus under Hegerbeck is slated to appear in Washington Indiana on August 16. Local residents are urged to note the event and plan attendance.

German papers publish long lists of submarine victims under Toll of our tireless boats. Prices rise in Britain and France as the blockade presses, while fishermen warn of submarine presence and even ram a German sub.
The city health officer reports June births totaling 14, with seven white males six white females and one colored male. Deaths total eight, including four white males one colored male three white females and one colored female. Overall births exceed deaths for June, and births outpace June 1914 totals.
In Washington General Villa's advisers conferred with President Wilson's officials over peace terms. Carranza headquarters expect a Villa communication within 10 days proposing northern Mexico in return for some consideration. Villa possibly seeks to avoid collapse of his northern Mexico forces as warfare has was not satisfactory recently.
At a county board of education meeting on Monday morning, Roy W. Marshall was unanimously approved for another year as county agent. Marshall has served since the law took effect and his excellent service is praised by the county’s progressive farmers.
An explosion at the Canadian Explosives Company plant in Montreal killed seven workers and injured many more. The blast was caused by a jammed cutting machine that triggered a fire and blew several buildings apart. A British government explosive inspector was among the dead, and a government investigation was launched immediately. Two of the victims were girls.
Esther James Word, 17, died Sunday at her parents home in Georgetown Indiana from injuries in an automobile accident weeks earlier. She was a former Princeton girl and well known locally. Funeral and burial were held in Georgetown on Tuesday.
Henry A. Grefe age 64 father of Emil Grefe, longtime Vanderburgh County gardener, died of internal troubles at Deaconess Hospital Evansville at 12 57 Monday morning. Survived by widow Margrefe three sons Rev Henry Grefe Owensboro Ky Oscar and Emil Evansville and three daughters Laura Ludig and Norma Evansville. Rev Henry Grete former pastor of the German Evangelical church East Emerson Evansville. No funeral arrangements yet.
Mr and Mrs Charles Mileton mourn the loss of their infant daughter Ruth. The death occurred at 4 30 o'clock on Monday afternoon at the Sumpson home 323 West Chestnut.
British airmen who tried a dawn raid on the German sea coast were driven back, according to an official statement. The force included aeroplanes with motor boats and torpedo boats, sighted by German airships, and one British hydroaeroplane reached the coast before escaping over a nearby inlet.
