At the Democratic national convention in San Francisco Bryan dominated attention as Nebraskan delegates anticipated a clash over the dry plank. Tensions rose with a record crowd expected and doorkeepers given special orders. Bryan appeared on stage at 10 29 amid restrained applause after a morning conference with Chairman Robinson and a planned platform procedure by the resolutions committee.
The Democrat will be issued before noon on July 5. Those with news items or advertisements should deliver them to the office as early as possible.
In San Francisco the Democratic platform committee defeated the Wilson league of nations plank 40 to 10 after amending it with Senator Walsh’s input. The prohibition plank sparked furious debate between wets and drys, with Williams J. Bryan leading the drys as he threatened to appeal to the convention. The panel also approved a suffrage appeal to officials in Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida.
Clarence Minnis, a Princeton Coal Mine driver, refused to drive a mule claimed burned by gas and injured eyes. He was discharged, then the mine went idle as drivers walked out. Sanford Bass from Winslow arrived with the mine board and the mine operated on Friday.
Mr and Mrs John Cleveland of Poseyville purchase the Hotel Pullman on Hart Street. The couple, with four years in Poseyville hotel business, plan remodeling and a first class restoration. Cleveland once worked as a barber in O L Vail shop.
Lightning hit a home of Andrew Wheeler near Ft Branch on Thursday during a storm causing the chimney to wreck and minor damage nearby as several trees were blown down but the house did not catch fire.
Fargo July 2 William Langer as Independent Republican leading for governor cut to 4 496 votes after 1 439 of 2 064 victs reported from yesterday's primary. Langer had 41 531 to Frazier 41 531 votes.
The Democratic National Convention in San Francisco began at 10:37 a m to adopt a platform amid heavy attendance. William J Bryan lay plans for a minority report while Senator Glass led the resolutions discussion. The crowd roared as the party endorsed labor measures and the League of Nations plank, with Bryan later presenting five minority proposals on prohibition enforcement, national bulletin publication, profiteering, military training, and treaty ratification reforms.
A Chicago based committee of 48 delegation arriving in Detroit to confer with Henry Ford about potentially accepting a third party presidential nomination. The group, including committee members and former Bull Moosers, plans talks with Ford on July 2 regarding his possible candidacy.

Scout Master E T Wilson leads the trip with boys carrying packs and cooking kits. They will camp at Milltown park after train arrival and hike to Marengo cave before returning home.
Oil activity in Gibson County reports the T. J. Adams lease at Mt. Olympus down to the Duncan sand at 1468 feet with good producing potential. Hugh Crecelius lease in Washington township drilled to 1040 feet with promising Hightower sand outlook. Watkins No. 4 near Oatsville shot successfully and expected to yield 75 to 100 barrels. Hightower lease by Indian Refining Co. shows strong showing anticipated. McDaniels lease operated by Robinson & Ir. at 1100 feet after a water delay.
The United States department of agriculture will open an office in Princeton this year to disseminate market information on cantaloupes. The office will start within the next week or ten days and operate as last year, a service long valued by Gibson county melon growers.
The Tichenor post Spanish American War veterans thank the Princeton library board and the Arch er post G. A. R. for allowing the use of the library basement as the post's permanent headquarters. The post is growing and plans significant developments.

William J Bryan pledged to press a bone dry declaration at the convention while other amendments to enforcement and wine and beer provisions failed. The panel then rejected a light wine and beer plank and the vote suggested the platform would remain silent on the issue.

The Pratt ton Indiana postoffice will close at 10 a m on Monday July 5 in observance of the holiday. Rural delivery is suspended and no mail service other than the general city delivery in the morning will occur. Postmaster John C Gorman signs the notice.
