A box car ran off the spur beside the Willcox Princeton Wholesale Co opposite the Southern station this morning. It crashed into a shade tree and a telephone pole in George King’s lot, uprooting the tree and snapping wires. The end of the car was damaged but the car did not overturn.
Carl L. Woods named assistant postmaster following L. K. Powell resignation. George Binhack promoted to regular city carrier. Woods has four years in the local service. also noted is a price increase for stamped envelopes and newspaper wrappers effective immediately with small lot pricing unchanged pending a full list.
Berlin reports a shift from calls for peace to a fiery demand for Germany to steel for the decisive battle. Dr Dryander’s sermon, praising sacrifice and divine aid, echoes widespread approval as the nation braces for renewed conflict and trust in God to ensure victory.
Dr. L. L. Wirt spoke at the University Extension program at First Presbyterian church on war experiences and the horrors of conflict. He endorsed the international league to enforce peace and praised President Wilson while stressing the issue transcends party lines.
Circuit court heard a plea in abatement in the case of Kate Walters versus members of the Princeton Gardens Company. The suit arises from a claim and several similar cases will be governed by the finding in this case.
The record shows Fred Austin aged 18 and Bronte BE Lynn aged 13, both of Princeton, obtained a marriage license. The notice lists their names and ages as the official details of the filing.
Rioting by Mexicans at Juarez continued as crowds refused to cross the bridge until bathed. U S troops charged the mob with rifles while Mexican soldiers used whips. The incident reflects tensions after Pershing's withdrawal. General Funston announced Pershing's departure from Mexico with plans to report in El Paso.
Pliny Fisk tells the house leak committee that Thomas W. Lawson should be imprisoned for perjury after Lawson alleged an interview with Archibald White boasting of McAdoo influence. Fisk denies leak knowledge but admits close ties to Secretary McAdoo and calls Lawson’s statement broadcast and damaging to Fisk’s reputation.
Lincoln P. Wirt, a well known lecturer, gave a morning talk to Princeton high school students. He described French trench life and American field hospital work near Paris. He also shared adventures in Alaska, engaging teachers and students alike.
A major cabinet reshuffle is planned early in Wilson's second term with voluntary resignations across the treasury agriculture commerce and possibly state departments. Secretary Lansing may become ambassador to London and Secretary Houston plans to leave in summer. Redfield and McAdoo will move to private business.
The State Department said additional armament on British ships will be reviewed case by case and may be recognized, despite submarine danger. It notes German subs now carry deck guns, increasing their offensive power and possibly justifying more armament on merchant vessels.
Chas Reinhart, 16, of Oakland City was indicted by a grand jury on petit larceny and brought here for trial Monday.
Record shows today's high of 67 and low of 60 for Princeton, supplied by government observer R R Marshall.

Indianapolis January 25. Dick Vesey of Fort Wayne, chair of the house judiciary committee, said the Aldretge suffrage bill will probably die in committee and no report is planned unless demanded by the house. The session faces key actions on prohibition, constitutional convention, and Gov Goodrich measures. The house plans Saturday sessions and has moved to advance administration bills while awaiting senate action on the constitutional and suffrage measures.
