German miners halt output in protest against the invasion as French authorities threaten to close mines. Workers refuse to operate under occupation, prompting safety and supply concerns across the region.
Indiana state senate approves a bill imposing 30 days in jail for first offense bootlegging and 1 to 2 years for a second offense with fines up to 1000 dollars. The measure, championed by Senator Dun, faces House approval and the governor's signature to become law.

Police Chief Sam Kettinger receives a $50 reward from the Cham ber of Commerce merchants division for the conviction of Floyd Tsanes and George Brown on check forgery in circuit court. The division had voted in September to pay $50 for each conviction to curb forgeries. The payment was officially revealed today by Charles G. Taylor of the Chamber.
The Rivteve case against Millard Nettleton of Cavertsville ends in a guilty verdict for selling extracts of Irish content to a buyer from Russed Newton. A three car Chicago bound Aurora and Elgin electric train derailed after hitting a passing automobile near Chicago. Washington reports record weekly coal production with bituminous near 11 million tons and anthracite about 2 million. The surge follows holiday transport improvements, east of the Mississippi fully utilized while west faces market limits. 1922 anthracite output reached 8.43 million tons in December, but annual total fell to 52.5 million due to a five month miners’ strike.
Engineer Schopmeyer reports the State Board of Works awarded Parish Construction of Paris the contract to improve the state road from Mt Carmel west through Wabash and Edwards to the west line of Edwards. Brick paving will be limited to sections west of Albion to the county line and east of Albion to Browns. Cement paving is planned from here to Browns through Wabash county. Section 13-A grading north of Patton to beyond the Wabash-Lawrence line was awarded to Barthelmy & Morris of St Francisville. Section 12-A from here to Patton not yet awarded. Townsend & Herman of Mt Carmel were the low bidders.
The Patoka Wabash river levee dispute begins in a Gibson County court with Special Judge John W. Carr presiding. Attorneys from Gibson and outside firms appear for petitioners and remonstrators as preliminary motions are addressed and a schedule set, with two weeks or more expected to finish and testimony from leading drainage engineers.
Indiana bill proposes penalties for using force threats or intimidation to cause workers in lawful occupations to quit. It would criminalize coercion during labor disputes with imprisonment from 60 days to two years and fines from 50 to 1000 dollars.
