Five more cases of smallpox were reported in the James Gilpatrick family across the river near Patoka Indiana. The first victim was a school aged child. The home remains under strict quarantine with seven or eight children a father mother and a son in law affected. Mrs Floyd Hall visited Princeton on Wednesday.
A fire started by coal oil stove ignited bedding in Mrs. Mary Rowe’s two story home and hotel at 1134 Stormert Avenue, causing about $65 in damages. Firemen arrived quickly after an alarm to prevent spread to the hotel restaurant. A separate alarm near Seminary Street reported smoke from a chimney. no fire found there.
Andrew Weidenbener aged 70 suffered a dislocated left shoulder and severe shock after a fall on the ice near his son’s home at 933 South Street while en route to the Southern shops where he operates a large steam hammer. He is a longtime employee at the Southern shops in Princeton and is known in railroad circles.
The Peoples American National bank board met to set the year 1920 plan. The personnel remains the same with Thomas R. Paxton as President S. T. Fisher as Vice-President and Cashier J. W. Yochum as Assistant Cashier. Directors include Pinkney Armstrong C. B. Smith William W. Sipp H. C. Barr O. M. Welhorn Joseph Carthers and R. N. Parrett.
Canadian steamer Lady Laurier now tows the disabled transport Powhattan into Halifax after Western Comet failed to hold the lines. Advices received in Washington state the change of tow occurred today with the Lady Laurier assuming the task.
United Presbyterian Church continues special services through the week with Dr. Jamieson delivering talks Thursday and Friday evenings at 7 30 and Friday and Saturday afternoons at 2 30. All are invited to attend these messages of truth and power.
Chicago health authorities report a small decline in new influenza cases for the 24 hours ending early today with 2,000 cases, down from 2,500 yesterday, and 61 deaths recorded during the day.
W. J. Ritterskamp, a noted Princeton and Gibson county gardener, has taken a five year lease with purchase options on a truck farm two miles south of Vincennes. He will begin extensive muck land truck gardening on March 1, cultivating thirty acres of muck with the rest of the tract pending use.
Attorney General Palmer met at the White House to push sedition legislation, signaling support for Graham or Sterling bills or Carey bill text. He noted DOJ will enforce any law passed. Samuel Gompers and labor leaders attended, asking four hours to draft objections, decrying the measures as anti strike.
Washington Jan 22 A Illinois representative Sabbath proposed amendments to the Walstead enforcement law to permit sale of beer with three percent alcohol and wine at nine percent The changes also increase physician prescription limits from one pint per ten days to one quart per fifteen days The measure aims to relax current strict alcohol restrictions.
Rep Sabbath of Illinois introduces a Walstead act amendment in Washington to allow physicians to prescribe one pint of whiskey for influenza patients, claiming alcohol is the only effective treatment amid the epidemic.
Reporters arriving in Paris from Amerongen say the former Kaiser suffered a stroke in his garden on Sunday. They note unverified death rumors in Holland and the United Press cannot confirm the reports. A separate dispatch says the Dutch extradition reply to the Kaiser case is being prepared in Amsterdam.
County and city health authorities act to prevent a repeat of the 1917 18 epidemic. The note instructs to fill a census doubt coupon and mail it to census officials in Evansville Indiana or to Rotary Club members. It asks for the resident to state whether they were enumerated at their address on January 1 1920 and to provide personal details including name street and city.
The Princeton Rotary Club urges every resident to help ensure a full count in the 1920 census. If you know someone missed by the enumerator, notify committee members F. J. Biggs Arch Sprowl and Horace Hitch. No penalty for being missed. encourage missing households to be counted.
Thieves broke into West Salem First National Bank in Mont Carmel area last night and stole about 600 in small change and Liberty bonds. They used nitroglycerine to force the safe, removed 219 in half dollars 250 in quarters and 69 in dimes, and opened safety deposit boxes. Police suspect an automobile accomplice. West Salem lies 15 miles west of the site.

Discovery announced by Tarvard Observatory of a new comet observed by a Spanish observer. Cable from Professor e cointe in Brussels said Ceomas Sola of Barcelona discovered it January 13. Comet visible only with two telescope, located in Puppis near Sirius with daily motion west and south.
