Berlin January report says Chancellor Ebert announced Germany will press for international abolition of conscription. He said the peace delegation would vote for it if other nations agree, and suggested adopting the Swiss modified service if France insists on a strong army.
Detroit January 1 six dollars a day becomes the minimum wage at the Ford plant. Officials confirm the new scale takes effect today and Honey Ford’s resignation as president is accepted.
Gibson county officials took office today with new county officers in place at the court house. Most are Republicans. County Surveyor Harry C. Morrison begins a new term unopposed. New sheriff Dink J. Flowers and treasurer Stanford Witherspoon are among the notable appointees, with deputies named for several offices. Retiring officials exit with praise from both parties for steady service.
Government urges savings with 1919 War Saving Stamps priced at 4.12 each for a 5 maturity value. Stamps available at banks and post offices during January with other notes on registration, maturity dates, and reminders that registration is optional. Citizens urged to begin 1919 stamp purchases and support Gibson county fund goals.

The wife of Bayard K. Lucas formerly of this city died Monday at the Vincennes home 326 North Third street after more than two years of illness. She leaves a husband and parents Michael and William Daffron two brothers and two sisters. In Velpen Indiana Gertrude Martin five died Tuesday afternoon of pneumonia. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin residence with burial Thursday at Stilwell Cemetery Velpen.
W. F. Craig, who had been visiting his mother, returned to Otterbin, Indiana, today.
London reports all passengers and crew from the transport Tenadores, which ran ashore off the French coast, have been landed. Officials stated no lives were lost.
The war relief commission of the Order of Elks gave $60,000 to the Salvation Army announced by Commander Evangeline C Booth. The funds will support war relief work.
