Rioting at Ohio Girls Industrial School Inmates Riot

In Delaware Ohio on December 29 seventy five girl inmates were under guard and ten were missing after a night of rioting at the state girls industrial school. Disorders began when cottage residents protested punishments for minor offenses, spreading to all cottages as about 120 girls roamed yards throwing stones and challenging staff.

Niemeier Charges Morgan Over Knox County Still

Evansville Indiana December 29 Mayor Charles Niemeier accused Enforcement Director Bert Morgan of neglecting duty and failing to act on a Knox county still seen by Morgan’s agents. Niemeier says agents refused to arrest the still and Princeton officials report illicit liquor still operating daily. Morgan says he has 24 operatives to cover the state and promised investigation.

Daughters of Isabella Dedicate New Princeton Home

Invitations have been issued for the Daughters of Isabella to dedicate their new community home in Princeton. The opening at 120 South Seventh Street will be on New Year’s Day from 3 to 9 p m with many local members expected to attend.

City’s New Fire Alarm System Nears Completion

Princeton Telephone Co reports the city's new fire alarm system nearly complete with boxes installed around the town. Each box contains a telephone usable for police calls as well as fire, and only two boxes remain to be placed today.

Bridge opening spurs auto theft surge in Evansville area

Evansville and Terre Haute police report increased car theft activity after the White River bridge at Hazleton opened. Mayors Ehwertorf and Niemeier said thieves now cross the river faster, with 3–4 arrests monthly before the bridge, and fewer cross-border recoveries due to delayed notification.

Indiana Government Costs per Capita Reach $8.10 in 1922

Reports to the Bureau of the Census show Indiana's total government costs for the year ending Sept. 30, 1922, at $24,159,674 or $8.10 per person. Total receipts were $25,558,250, yielding a per capita excess of $0.48. Property taxes comprised 52.8 percent of revenue, with licenses and other items contributing the rest. The state’s net indebtedness stood at $0.14 per capita, and assessed property value taxed reached $5.23 billion.
