Mt Carmel Levee Petition Advances in County
In Mt. Carmel Illinois on December 29 the circuit court approved the petition of property holders in the south part of the county to organize the Rochester McLearys Bluff levee district. Commissioners were named to start work on a levee over nine miles long protecting more than 5000 acres at an estimated cost of about 75000 dollars. Work will begin immediately.

Two Stills Found at Old Vincennes
In Vincennes Indiana on December 29 George Morris and Christ Ehart renowned police figures were arrested in raids on their homes early Sunday morning both charged with operating stills. Each site housed a thirty six gallon still with whisky flowing as officers entered. Police found full stills and barrels of mash and yeast at both locations.
