Rivers continue to rise rapidly with White river at Hazleton climbing seven inches overnight. The Hazleton ferry remains open but roads in low areas floodwater reaches running boards on cars and could close by late today. Wabash at Mt Carmel reaches 184 feet as flooding spreads.
In Brazil Indiana the Chicago and Eastern Illinois railroad told about 80 families their coal division from Brazil to Momence Illinois will cease operations December 31. A special train guided transfer of rolling stock while crews and staff face job loss or transfer.
Eugene V Debs told United Press the Washington arms conference is futile and will fail by not addressing warfare causes. He warned destruction of capital ships would only cheapen the next war and leave warfare to deadlier weapons. Debs plans to return to Terre Haute with his wife awaiting him at home.
Princeton Rotary held a post holiday meeting with good attendance after Christmas and a day off. President Fisher opened with remarks, John Ballard read a paper, and Ed Robinson led an entertaining program. Rev Fr Hassell spoke on the New Year, and RE B Leach of Newark Ohio discussed Americanism to visiting relatives. The club vows to leverage opportunities with community support in the new year.
Thomas Padgett a 41 year old stationery engineer died Monday evening by intentionally drinking carbolic acid in Mt Carmel Ul. He left a confession months earlier to murder his stepmother near Memphis Tennessee while intoxicated and later denied the crime after sobering.
Thomus Brands, 18, and Matilda Rist, 17, two sweethearts unable to marry due to lack of money, died of strychnine poisoning. They planned to wed Friday night to escape parental opposition, leaving a note about seeking happiness in death. Each worked a low earning job, hoping to fix a small home together.

The event culminated in the distribution of annual holiday checks to all Maxwell employees across departments.
Tele gram Monday night reports the death of Mrs Paul Schoeney at their Las Vegas New Mexico home on Christmas night. The body will be buried in Texas after funeral arrangements. She leaves six months old daughter and two sons Ellis and Lloyd. Mrs Cassidy is too ill to attend.
Miss Bidolia Bledsoe wed Mr. Thomas Jones in a 6 o clock ceremony at 226 East Clark Street. Grace Catery played the piano as Thelma Bledsoe and Martin Stemaly led the bridal party to the parlor for a horsehoe shaped read. The bride wore white chiffon trimmed in satin and carried white roses. After a large gathering offered best wishes the couple planned to reside in Princeton for a period.
The Rev. C A Wade, pastor of the First, officiated two marriages Monday afternoon at his East Water Street residence. Henrietta Jaklatia City and Paul L. side Oakland city. Ethel Mellinger Patoka and Oscar S. Rinehart Oakland City. The couples will reside in Oakland. Mr and Mrs Spether Maidlow and son returned to Evgnaville after visiting Mrs Jane Maidlow.
The home of Mr. and Mrs. 8. B. Robinson south of Princeton was burglarized Sunday evening while the family was away. Jewelry valued over 150 dollars, including heirloom pieces such as a cameo pin a gold watch and a diamond ring, was stolen. Entry was gained by cutting a screen and forcing a rear door. The theft was found when the family returned and matches were found inside. A reward has been offered by Mr. Robinson for the arrest and conviction of the thieves.
Waukegan article reports Governor Len Small may stand trial on conspiracy and embezzlement indictments. Judge Edwards said a decision would be handed down Thursday after several days of consideration. If sustained, trial likely to start soon.
An afternoon two car crash at the northeast corner of the square caused minor damage with no injuries reported. Each driver tried to beat the other through the intersection.

William A. Ketcham, former national commander of the G. A. R., died in Indianapolis after a brief illness. He rose from captain in the Civil War to judge advocate of the G. A. R. from 1916 to 1920 and served as Indiana attorney general after winning elections in 1894 and 1896. He was 71. Survived by widow, six daughters, one son, and a home in Indianapolis.
In Washington the split deepens as Secretary Hughes faces irreconcilable Republican senators. They denounce his four power Pacific pact interpretation including Japan and warn of entangling alliances. Critics say the four power treaty equals the League in danger to U S interests.
Indianapolis December 2 193? A new brief opposes the Indiana Electric Corporation plan to merge state utilities. Fred Johnson attorney for the city of Kokomo argues the merger carries excessive valuations and would fail to meet income requirements under existing rates to pay seven percent interest. The briefs contend the proposed merger would raise electric rates in cities now served.
The confessed dental burglar Paul A. Stockel is reported in poor condition with fears of infection from his wounds. Mrs Ella Laughling and granddaughter Marjorine Stone were noted as Christmas shoppers in Evansville last week.
The Salvation Army and Miss Williams thank Princeton residents for support of the new Citadel dedicated last week. Fifty families received baskets. Boy Scout Troop No. 1 aided in distribution. A Christmas treat for poor children will be held on Friday December 30 at 8 p.m. Donations of toys are welcomed at Army headquarters by Thursday night.
Several thefts were reported during a charity ball held by the Elks at the I C O F on Monday evening. An overcoat belonging to Byron Toney and a number of hats and caps were stolen from the coat and hat racks outside the main ballroom, with the burglaries thought to occur during the event.
