Hazleton Indiana reports the White River at 20 feet 2 inches with continued rise expected for three days. Upstream reports note rising levels on both forks, flooding areas and impeding ferry service as roadwork improves approaches to the Hazleton bridge.
The Wabash River continues rising with a crest expected at least 20 feet at Mt Carmel. Weather bureau reports warn of widespread lowland flooding and growing apprehension as the river nears crest today or tomorrow.
Mrs Darby Scott hosted a seven oclock dinner in Owensville to reveal the engagement of Esther Harter to Jess Townsley of Princeton. Nut-shell announcement at place settings and Christmas decorations framed the evening with guests Nina Ellis Katherine Harter and Mrs William Jackson Jr. from Princeton.
A moving picture titled Human Wreckage starring Mrs. Wallace Reid and a full cast arrives at the Noble theatre for Thursday and Friday showings. Critics call it a truthful, powerful denunciation of the dope menace with strong moral purpose and engaging drama. The production aims to educate as it entertains, led by writer director and company and praised for its authentic details. In Bogota on December 19 President Ospina took charge of relief efforts for the quake zone along the Ecuador border. Death toll is reported around 400 with hundreds injured. The disaster affects a rich agricultural region. An urgent $100,000 was approved for relief and the army is ordered to aid the homeless and wounded.
Indiana corn growers and livestock producers excelled at the International Livestock Expo in Chicago with Purdue University leading wins. J M Ballard of Marion captured grand championship in earrot hogs, weights 312 pounds, and Purdue took multiple top prizes including reserve champion steer and best all around college exhibit.
King George and Queen Elizabeth fled Athens today aboard the steamer Daphne to Bucharest as Greek subjects demanded a republic after an uprising.
HITS BOXCAR CHICAGO Dec 19 Scores of persons were thrown about and bruised when a crack flyer on the Pennsylvania railroad crashed into a boxcar at Schererville Ind thirty five miles from here shortly after midnight. The engineer and fireman were painfully injured as freight cars derailed and one boxcar landed crosswise on a parallel track.
Berlin dispatch reports Wilhelm Marx, new German chancellor, declares Germany “at the end of her resources” but backs a policy of fulfillment. He emphasizes wage cuts for officials and judges, and prioritizes retaining the Rhineland and Ruhr within the Reich if necessary.
In Indianapolis, Mrs. A. E. Case reports a shift with 296 visitors this month at the State Museum, 279 of them children mostly unaccompanied. Donations arrived including mineral collections arranged by Thomas M. Kingsbury, while four donors found their exhibits hidden due to crowded display space.

Mrs R E Smith visits Poseyville with her parents. Mr and Mrs R W Emerson visit Evansville on business. Sunday schools plan Christmas programs Monday night. Miss Rosa Edwards has been sick and is improving.
More than 300 Indiana wheat growers endorsed forming a cooperative marketing association in Indianapolis to pool and sell wheat. The plan sets 11 directors, a Purdue appointee, voting rights for members, and a five year contract with 25 cents per bushel for out of pool sales.
The Gibson county corn show at the courthouse opened with 125 entries, beating last year’s 118. Judge P B Johnson of Vincennes presided, rating uniformity, ear shape, length, color, tips, butts, kernel, and stain on a 100 point scale. judging to finish by Wednesday afternoon with exhibits on display Thursday.
Willard Mayhugh 13, son of Mr and Mrs R P Mayhugh of West Pinckney street, suffered a severe injury Wednesday at 9 30 am when the jointer used by the high school manual training class cut off the ends of two fingers on his left hand. He had tried to plane a small piece of wood without the guard, despite warnings to never operate the jointer without the guard. Mayhugh was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In Petersburg Indiana on December 19 the Democrats swept all city offices except clerk treasurer. Mayor results show Fred Whitelock winning 8381 votes to Sylvester Thompson 580. Clerk-treasurer Eddie W. Harris Republican 741, Gardner T. Kime Democrat 648.
Word arrives of James Hughes death in Kentucky. His remains will be brought to Union for burial, with funeral services planned Thursday afternoon. He married Mane McAfee in youth. her death followed in 1917. Daughter Mrs. Fannie Harvey died in 1919. only close local relative is Miss Alice Harvey. Hughes had lived in Kentucky for two or three years.
Charles McGhee national lecturer for the Ku Klux Klan declared he will not resign his commission in the Officers Reserve Corps. The St Louis Legion post demanded his resignation citing his Klan work as promoting class hatred.
Carl Bickel of United Press reports from Moscow after interviewing the Soviet foreign minister. He says Russia has made its last bid for American recognition until after the next presidential election and outlines the government’s stance.
Elmer Thompson of near Owensville sues Fort Branch for 25000 damages after his son Winston Thompson 18 was killed when the car he drove left a bridge on November 18. He alleges narrow rough approaches no guard rails and a rough bridge floor caused the loss of control and death from steering pressure. Other three occupants escaped serious injury.
In the circuit court Lewis Whiting sued Mary F. Davis and William Hystop for 2000 over grocery stock value. The jury returned a verdict for Whiting Tuesday afternoon awarding $850 against the defendants jointly after about an hour deliberation.
Addie Viola Johnson formerly Claymeier was granted a divorce from Louis Wallace Johnson in circuit court Tuesday afternoon. The court restored her maiden name Addie Viola Claymeier.
Princeton post Sons of Veterans elected new officers for the coming year at a regular meeting. G M Braselton was chosen commander, M F Stewart senior vice commander, William E Daugherty junior vice commander, Roscoe Woods secretary, W C Bucklin treasurer, with George H Padgett Dr J L Morris and Will Davis named delegates to the state encampment.
