Two American Archbishops Face Cardinal Elevation

New York Archbishop Patrick Hares and Chicago Archbishop Mundelein are likely to be named cardinals before Easter. Vatican reports note only two cardinals will be created at the December consistory, Isvaricti Vaucidi and Monsignor Galli, with no confirmed western choice.

New road opened south of Princeton after construction

The J. E. Joxsee road south of Princeton was finished and opened Wednesday night. It runs east-west for 5 044 feet, connects Hal Street road to the Dixie Tee Line, passes by the new coal mine, and is a water bound macadam county unit road 14 inches thick and 15 feet wide with one small curve. Built by English LeMaster Co. of Petersburg and Oakhand City.

Senator James Watson of Indiana told reporters in Passaic that he is not a candidate for president but won’t rule out a run. He urged study of the Constitution and federal laws during an address in New Jersey, outlining his views.

Indiana forecast calls for fair conditions tonight and Saturday with rising temperatures. Thursday’s outlook shows a high near 30 and a low around 1 90 with light precipitation. Last year on the same date the high reached 41 and the low 20 under cloudy skies. Current 6 am temp and sunset and sunrise times are listed as 6 am, 4 51 and 6 59 respectively.

Prisoners Escape from Transfer Train at Caldwell Junction

Five of eighteen convicts being moved to Leavenworth escaped last night as a bridge burned halted the train at Caldwell Junction. Federal officers suspect accomplices staged the break, with guards briefly left unattended for lunch. A pursuit by authorities and an automobile both seem involved but unsuccessful.

Evansville Ind December 14 The Republican Central Committee of the first district postponed its hotel meeting planned to act on Governor Warren T. McCray’s indictment. Judge Philip C. Gould said illness prevented Stuart Fisher from attending, noting Clyde Wald’s call for a state committee meeting later this month. Local leaders split on resignations and action.

Judge Anderson Appears as Defendant in Contempt Suit

In Indianapolis on December 14 Judge Albert L. Anderson entered the courtroom as a defendant in a $100,000 suit brought by D. Evan Omoff of Gary. Omoff claims he was unjustly jailed a year earlier on a contempt charge and says a Gary counterfeiter paid $900 to influence the judge. $700 was supposedly to "fix" the judge. Anderson ordered the money returned. Omoff refused and was jailed by the judge.

Two Patoka Men Injured Three Killed In Crash

In LaPorte Indiana on Thursday night a gasoline powered speeder collided with a New York Central switch engine. Three men were killed and seven injured including Paul Bruner William Pierce Olive Myers. The dead were John Lindl Frank Wright and William Melborne. The injured ranged from serious to minor. The victims were Western Union linemen returning from Otis Indiana to LaPorte.

First Baptist Sermon Urges Mercy Over Judgment

After a sermonette in song led by Mr. Fleming, Rev. Hoskins preached on Who Shall Stand at First Baptist church. He warned the world’s back–eye perspective and urged keeping hearts with God’s help, stressing mercy over judgment and forgiveness through Jesus. The afternoon topic was The Victorious Life and tonight’s service Today With Me in Paradise. Those not attending are missing a blessing.
