Paris greets President Wilson with gun salutes and cheering crowds as he arrives at the station. President Poincare and Mrs. Poincare welcome the Americans, followed by Premier Clemenceau and General Pershing. The leaders pledge united victory, justice, and a lasting peace.
Charles W Thieampeen of Petersborg receives notice that his son Private Vertis Thompeen was killed in action on the Loire front during World War I. Vertis volunteered, served with a company near the border, and died from gas exposure. He was 78 years old and previously a local high school settler.
President Wilson spoke in France asserting the peace conference must punish Germany for terror and spoliation. He emphasized lasting peace through justice and the need to settle war issues to deter future aggression. He praised Franco American friendship and urged action against central powers.
President Poincare welcomed American soldiers and sailors praising their ardor and idealism in the war effort. He lauded the democratic leadership and expressed Paris and France eagerly awaiting the Allied soldiers to be recognized as exemplars of moral and political truth in a shared cause.

United Press reports American troops crossed the Rhine at 8 a.m. Friday in drizzle. Four bridges and two ferries supported a 37 mile front. The First Division crossed at Coblenz on a German pontoon bridge led by Brigadier General Parker. A company of the 8th Infantry was first to reach the east bank.
The Home Service Section offers to help soldiers and sailors families apply for allowances, allotments, compensation, and insurance. It will handle arrears for death, burial expenses, and locate absent service members. Bessie A. Milurer, chairman, Gibson County, invites inquiries and aid.
Clifford G. Osborn, in naval service 13 months, mustered out and arrived home Thursday from Yorktown Virginia where he was stationed at naval Use No. 2. Privates Floyd Bottom of Petersburg Joe Montgomery of Winslow and Claud Chandler of Littles have also been mustered out after service at Valparaiso and were in the city Friday en route home.
Earl Moore son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Moore of North Race street has received his discharge and returned home this week from Sherman.
