Marie and Ada Fichter, sisters from East State Street, were accosted by an unknown man at Race and Broadway after a 9 pm outing. They escaped with no injuries but were terrified and a taxi took them home. Police searched for hours but no description was obtained.
United Press reports three key developments for the United Mine Workers of America. A local union convention will meet after coal production normalizes to decide on the strike settlement terms. The union’s 97 officials face contempt of court trials next Tuesday over the injunction. A federal grand jury probes operators for Lever Act violations before the strike.

Indianapolis December 13 District Attorney L Ert Slack asked the justice department to confirm government coal regulation status. He called price reports a possible Lever Act antiprofiteering violation and said a special grand jury would investigate. Many complaints cited ten dollar per ton coal.

Washington D C December 13 Conferences on reorganizing labor policies begin under AFL President Samuel Gompers. Farmers and leaders from major unions and four railroad brotherhoods attend. Vice President Samuel Worrell says a public statement will outline labor’s stance on industrial issues and notes a political labor party looks unlikely. The conference could run a week.
Mr and Mrs J W Williamson of Makemson avenue learned their son Clark, a Purdue University student, was injured in a skating accident on a lake Thursday night. He struck a stone culvert under a low arch, sustaining a slight skull fracture but no serious concussion. Friends hope for a speedy recovery as the lake’s high water contributed to the mishap.
Chicago December 18 The state will stage its first mass effort to raise prices next Tuesday on the suggestion of Attorney General Mitchell Palmer. Governor Loudin and fair price committee members plus city mayors will attend to discuss methods and laws to enforce the new pricing.
Reports say insurgents led by Villa captured two Americans and a Englishman near Musquiz in Texas territory. Villists reportedly held captives for ransom as Villa reportedly directed the attack and fled to the mountains. Washington officials later said no Americans were harmed, with no further details received.
London dispatch reports that Allied representatives in conference decided to let Russia settle its own difficulties. The decision marks a shift in handling postwar tension and outlines Russia’s autonomy in addressing internal issues.
Four inmates died and two more are expected to die after eating poisoned food at the Kalamazoo asylum. Thirty five of fifty inmates became ill prompting a sheriff led investigation into the source of the poison.
