Thirteen Negro Soldiers Hanged for Houston Riot

Thirteen Negro soldiers were hanged early today for participation in the Houston riot of August. Forty-one were sentenced to prison, five acquitted. The executions, first on American soil since U.S. entry into the war, were carried out at Salado Creek on government land under Major General John W. Buckland.
