John Roy Singleton dies at twenty months from brain fever after a Tuesday illness. Jane Currie Taylor widow of John Taylor dies at 15 South Main Street after a long illness. Taylor born 1832 in Scotland and married 1854 to John L. Paylor. survivors include son J. Stuart of Meridian, Mississippi. Funeral plans unsettled as family awaits word.
Mrs Cornelia Steele longtime resident dies at her home Friday morning at age 82 after several weeks illness. Funeral services will be held at the General Baptist church Sunday morning conducted by Rev Sirch and Rev Rouch with burial in Providence Cemetery. She was a life long member of the General Baptist church and had been married three times leaving many relatives and friends to mourn.
A terse Washington bulletin reports Ambassador Bernstorff telephoning Secretary Lansing in the afternoon to say that the German Emperor William had recalled Captains Boyed and von Papen.
Fire destroyed three Anchor grain elevators in Erie burning 550000 bushels of grain destined for the Allies. Investigators say pro German incendiaries started the blaze. Loss estimated at 750000 dollars.
