German attacks around Vide Woods fail after two violent, fruitless thrusts. About 25 divisions, totaling roughly 875,000 men, massed for a major effort on the Hindenburg line. Paris dispatch reports Roumanian generals have agreed to an armistice but not a separate peace. Allies have been informed the Roumanian situation is desperate.

W A Oliphant of Petersburg believes the 1868 disappearance of trader John Wadkins, a known miser, may be linked to a skeleton found near Patoka. Wadkins reportedly carried about 900 dollars and vanished after leaving Warren Hudspeth’s home to go to the Kirkman farm six miles north of Patoka. A horse seen at Mt Carmel months later and two Kirkman farm hands who disappeared later fuel speculation of murder during Civil War era debts.
Florence Kendle and Lawrence Degenhart were married at 4 30 PM Thursday at the First Methodist parsonage. Rev W M Whitsitt officiated in the presence of a few attendants. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs George Kendle, near the city, and the groom, son of Mr and Mrs Barney Degenhart of Hazleton, is a farmer. They will reside on a farm near Hazleton.
