Heavy rain delayed finishing touches on the Warleton highway bridge as crews work to complete approaches and guardrails. The bridge and south pavement will open Wednesday with limited heavy traffic, while the ferry remains active until December 22 to allow concrete to cure.
Evansville Indiana works toward the December 12 Hazleton bridge opening. Governors from Indiana Ohio Kentucky and Tennessee will attend along with federal officials and mayors from regional towns. Large parades form in Terre Haute Sullivan Vincennes before converging at the bridge by noon.
Beverly Harris, Southern beauty and wife of a former city bank vice president, denies her husband’s divorce allegations claiming tainted bloodlines. Harris asserts she met him in Memphis in 1915, was misrepresented by Congressman McLemore, and that the alleged Coronel Lee lineage is false. She says she will contest the suit to the end to clear her name.
Thieves broke into the Stermer Jones General Store and the C and E J Station in Patoka, taking about 60 pocket knives a 31x4 tire and other small items. Noise alerted residents, and about $75 value was missing. No suspects or fingerprints reported as the sheriff investigates.
Five hundred fifty dollars has been raised on the Christmas seal drive to fund the Tuberculosis Association. The drive started Sunday with Princeton Cb. F. O. girls canvassing house to house. Seals have been placed in city schools and will be sold by students while the county awaits further returns.
The delegation will assemble at Hotel Rie Curdy with Central High School Band and Mayor Ehlendorf leading national, state, and local guests. Officials expect arrivals from Princeton, Oakland City, Winslow, Huntingburg, Jasper and other eastern delegations, with a motor train due at 12. Ample parking and police protection are arranged at both ends of the bridge.
City council met Monday night at the city building and approved several bills while discussing the conservation of the sanitary sewer system. No action was taken on sewer matters beyond discussion.

The county commissioners were in session Tuesday and will finish by Tuesday afternoon. Only routine business will be considered during the session.
Mr and Mrs Haskell Oliver announce the birth of a son born Saturday night at their home. Mr and Mrs Isaac Wilder announce twin boys weighing six and seven pounds born Monday at their home.
The Ft Branch-Haubstadt cut-off on the Dixie Bee line opened to traffic Monday after summer paving. Most bridges are complete with temporary spans, giving nearly 15 miles of uninterrupted pavement and saving about 20 minutes travel between Princeton and Evansville. Bridge work beyond Pigeon Creek is delayed awaiting completion. Contract for the Ft Branch to Princeton pavement to be awarded Dec 18 with work starting next spring.
Indiana Republicans plan a conference in Indianapolis as pressure mounts for Governor McCray to resign amid bankruptcy hearings. William Towers, McCray's private secretary, testified as banks pursue a potential declaration of bankruptcy. Clyde Walb arrives to guide party discussions with lawmakers and officials this week.
Attorney General Daugherty reports the federal government seeks repayment of large sums paid on wartime contracts settled by the War Department and Quartermaster Corps. Settlements, long considered closed, are reopened for review by a joint survey board. Suits totaling 64 million dollars are pending, with 3.2 million already collected and another 1.225 million secured, not counting the chemical foundation case.
Police Court heard I N Sloan a taxi driver arrested Sunday by Officer Hyslop. Special Judge Hovey Kirk sentenced him to 60 days at the state farm for driving a car while intoxicated. A second charge of transporting liquor was withheld pending good behavior.
