Senate member Sherman introduces a resolution to declare the presidency vacant when President Wilson leaves for France and to call Vice President Marshall to assume duties. House Republican leader Mann rejects the move saying no constitutional challenge will be made.
Washington report from December 3 says 2300 American prisoners are well fed clothed and morale high at the Raskatt camp. L E Levy of the prisoners relief section says Germans will deliver the prisoners at once and will transfer 19 American officers to lead the party. WW W Husband in Copenhagen plans a delegation to southern Germany as prisoners move toward Switzerland.
Mrs. John Goebel visiting sisters in Princeton lost her pocketbook Monday. Drayman DC. W. Nichols found it with money and a Terre Haute pass. He located the owner and returned the purse and contents in the afternoon.
Mrs Crecentia Weidener wife of Alfred Weidener aged 70 died at home 917 Stout Street Monday evening at 6 50 o clock from liver cancer Surviving are the husband three sons and two daughters Mathew Princeton Frank Bloomington K Tony Detroit Mich Mrs Joe Todd Breeza TL and Mrs John O Malley Nashville Tenn Funeral at St Josephs church Thursday morning at nine o'clock conducted by Rev Father Hassel with interment at St Josephs cemetery
Mrs. Clara McMillan suffered a dislocated right shoulder and several bruises after tumbling from a chair she stood on. She is resting as well as could be expected following the fall.
Donald Cleveland died at his Washington Indiana residence early this morning from influenza. He had lived in Washington two weeks after formerly living in Vincennes. Surviving are his wife and his parents Mr and Mrs William Cleveland of this place one brother Carl Cleveland in France and one sister Ruby Cleveland The wife was to join city officials tonight The body will be brought here this evening and taken to the home of Mrs Cleveland’s parents Mr and Mrs E J Smith Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Reuben Spray aged 19 died Monday evening at the Emergency Hospital from pneumonia. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Samuel Spray of 518 South Hace. Burial is planned for Wednesday at the I. C. O. B. cemetery with no funeral services.
Reports on the influenza status show no change with seventy two cases in Princeton over Sunday and Monday while other parts of the county report a total of twenty five cases.
An automobile driven by Mr Oscar Haas struck the awning in front of the Brownlee store at State and Hart streets Monday afternoon, wrecking the awning and causing minor damage to the car. No one was injured.
City council met in regular session Monday evening but transacted no business beyond approving the allowance of dams.
Secretary Baker testified before the Senate Military Affairs Committee that the War Department has never withheld casualty lists and blamed delays on reporting and verification. He pledged faster dispatch while General Pershing and Major General March outlined identification plans and return of bodies, with decisions on returning remains to be made by families. The discussion followed criticism of casualty notification times and a proposal to publish all deaths immediately.
President Wilson completed preparations for his European trip and will sail from New York tomorrow morning. He may not leave until Wednesday morning. He is expected to appoint Carter Glass as secretary of the treasury to succeed McAdoo, with a director general of the railroads to follow. Russian Ambassador Bakhmetieff will accompany the president to France to convey Russia’s desires at the conference.
The Brest naval base ordered 18 destroyers to sail to the Azores to await the fleet that will accompany the president. The squadron reportedly includes nine vessels among dreadnoughts armored cruisers and cruisers.
United Press reports Bavarian led effort by southern states to investigate Germany’s war causes and assign blame to Prussia. The piece argues Prussia held dominance in government and military, warns south-north rivalry could fuel anti monarchy sentiment, and predicts future Prussian influence would threaten democratic security.
Mr and Mrs George White of east State street learned Monday their son Vivian is missing in France as officially reported on Nov 2 The youth left the city in February with Gibson county selectives and was sent from Camp Zachary Taylor to Camp Sherman He served with Company D 362nd Infantry overseas in the early fall
John L. Henson, a US Army deserter from Camp Benjamin Harrison and Camp Zachary Taylor, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Fettinger and Evansville detectives at Stringtown road crossing near Evansville. He had deserted on November 4 and previously left camp twice without leave. He was being returned to camp after being found near his mother's Evansville home.
Amsterdam dispatch reports the former Kaiser still has friends in America. In response to an interview request his secretary says the emperor, retired in private life, will not issue a statement and regrets he cannot share views with America.
Turkey announces it will request the peace conference to dispatch an international force as part of its plea for aid and protection amid ongoing postwar settlement discussions.
