A wireless dispatch from Moscow yesterday says Kolchak has formed a bodyguard of 3000 to protect himself as partisan forces continue harassing his position west of Irkutsk.
William H. Raney of this city, vice president of the Indiana miners, returned from a Washington conference and remains optimistic about a settlement. He denies a 14 or 31 percent increase claim and clarifies remarks misattributed to him. Andrew Pritchett and family have moved to Hazleton to make their future home.
Charles J. Orbinson, newly named federal prohibition director for Indiana, said enforcement will start promptly when he takes office January 16. He stressed strict enforcement and expected cooperation from all law officers and the public to uphold the law statewide.

January–October 1919 births 48043, down from 64404 last year, a drop of 16358. Vermillion county high rate 39.5 percent. Tippecanoe county low 5.7 percent.

Congressman Luhring spoke as a musical program by the women’s auxiliary preceded a banquet. Attendees included Henry Smith Fort Branch Foreman Knowles Owensville Capt. George Soller I W Depriest J Frank Erwin and William M Wilson of Princeton.
Spanish-American War veterans in the city and county plan a Friday evening meeting at the city building to revive activities of the Oliver Tichenor post. The group runs a home at Knightstown Indiana for orphans of deceased comrades and cites only 31 of an estimated 60 eligible veterans in the area.
City council held its semimonthly session at the city building. Aside from approving the usual batch of bills, the gathering focused on routine title business and other municipal matters.
The W. C. T. U. women celebrated the forty sixth anniversary of the Crusade movement. Mrs. McCurdy chaired the meeting as county president. Mrs. Sarah Simpson recalled that stirring era and the district delegate reported lively statistics from the National Convention in St. Louis. The note stressed the ongoing war against liquor and the push for prohibition.
Local grain dealers boosted corn to 1.35 from 1.15 and oats by 45 cents. Wheat prices edged up from 2.08 to 2.10. Arthur Smith, on furlough with his father in Ft Branch, leaves for Denver Base Hospital No 21 after returning from service in France.
The R2 Nance Manufacturing Company shirt factory in Columbus Ind shut down due to coal shortages but will resume tomorrow using three farm tractors for power. The facility employs about five hundred women and girls.
