Plan calls for an organized effort to build homes for thousands of miners in Princeton as coal development is expected to double the population within a few years. Companies seek housing for workers and new towns may form to accommodate expansion.
Old Francisco mine will hire 400 within a year and Shaft No 2 aims for 500 workers. Shaft No 3 to the southeast also targets 500, boosting Francisco Mining Co payroll to 125000 to 150000 monthly. Martin Howe Co plans three mines with 1500 workers near Oatsville once rail access is assured.
President William Johnson of the Francisco Mining Company told 200 businessmen and workers at the Odd Fellows hall that extensive coal development will bring a large new workforce to Princeton. He said two mines south of Francisco already under way will hire 590 workers, with a planned third shaft to employ at least 500 more, and urged citizens to welcome and house new families to support the booming industry.
N Sevringhaus of Evansville spoke on salesmanship and business conditions at a Lo saloon hall banquet. He urged that every person is a salesman of service and praised the clerk, pastor, and lawyer as sellers to others, noting the pendulum of prosperity and the city’s mayoral race involvement.
The United States Labor Board issued a new set of working rules for railroad shop crafts effective today. The open shop principle is recognized and employees may be assigned to work outside their craft when needed. Minorities will be represented on grievance committees, and the changes aim to save railroads money while expanding noncraft assignments.
The Evvan gelical church at Mackey Indiana will be dedicated Sunday December 4 with appropriate exercises. A basket dinner will be served at noon free to all who attend the dedication ceremonies.
A Princeton banquet organized by the Princeton Advertising Club drew about 200 business and professional attendees and emphasized courtesy and collective aid to Princeton. The speaker urged everyone to assist him in advantageous matters, receiving frequent applause for his points.
In Columbus Ohio Dr G T Goddard reports a strange case of dual personality involving Bernice Redick 19 and Polly Redick 4 who shared one body. Polly and Bernice reportedly switch ages with no link between them as doctors seek a cure through hypnotic suggestion. Polly was a Lisbon high school pupil before being brought to the Juvenile Research Peaceful here five months ago.
Mrs Elizabeth Jenkins widow of James Jenkins died Monday morning in the north part of Oakland City after a fall a week earlier in which her hip was broken. She was ninety. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Atkins Pike county chapel with burial in the cemetery. Several children survive, including Tierce Jenkins who lived with her.
Ezekial Stevens of Francisco died Wednesday night at a St Louis hospital after being taken there two weeks earlier. County Treasurer and Mrs Stanford Witherspoon of Francisco were at his bedside. Mrs Witherspoon is his daughter.
The American Legion calls a special meeting tonight at seven oclock in the Courthouse. All members are requested to attend due to important business on the agenda.
