Washington deliberations show little optimism for a quick end to the pause treaty debate. With Congress set to reconvene, leaders plan to push long delayed general legislation while private discussions continue. Some expect the President to address the issue in a future message, others believe it will be sidelined.
Washington report says Senator Trueman returned to Washington from Hot Springs and prepared to enter the regular session amid alleged election fraud indictments. He had no plans to travel to Grand Rapids as he awaited official notification from authorities.
Indiana Governor Goodrich called a Tuesday morning meeting with fifteen strip mine operators and Ed Stewart, head of the state miners union, to discuss resuming mine operation without union labor if necessary. He signaled state may use prison labor to run unskilled mines while revival of the fuel administration and coal distribution measures are advocated.
Industrial Army units and state and regular army troops began arriving in the Pittsburg coal fields to take over mining operations. The move integrates military labor into mine production as tensions rise over control and output.
Violence reported after an attempt to blow up a railroad bridge near Pittsburg caused only slight damage. Eighteen hundred state and regular troops are on the ground with Governor Allen planning to deploy more as operations are organized. Coal output for the day estimated at ten cents per unit, with volunteers ready to dig for the state.
Brig. L. M. Simpson of Indianapolis heads a Salvation Army service at 216 East Broadway Salvation Army hall tonight. Everyone is invited to attend this service.
With coal dwindling and a strike unresolved, Southern shops fear layoffs. Authentic reports show the B and O delivering 200 signed coal cars to the Southwest through New Albany, while coal moves west from Virginia and Kentucky mines.
William Walker, a juvenile, is jailed on charges of receiving stolen goods tied to a rifle stolen from Herriott Carithers hardware. He faces arraignment in circuit court. His younger brother was tried earlier with a suspended sentence. William had been missing but was located and arrested Saturday by city police.
Minnie Sims aged 22 of Vincennes wed Glessie M. Herndon aged 33 of Linton in Justice D. S. W. Miller’s east Broadway office. This marks the groom’s second marriage and the bride’s third.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wheeler of Hazleton were in the city Monday for shopping.
A posted notice informs miners that the United States government has decided on a 1H percent average wage rise to match cost of living, and the mine will grant a 14 percent average increase effective immediately with no changes to employment conditions. The new wage scale will be posted soon and preserve current differentials.
William Wardorf, engineman on the Philadelphia and Reading railroad, manipulated the engine whistle to play Home Sweet Home and When the Boys Come Home as the Cape May soldiers were honored. Wardorf, who plays fourteen instruments, is noted as possibly the only engineer in the country who can play popular airs with a locomotive whistle.
Fred Heath aged 18 dies at Methodist hospital after his right leg is severed above the knee when he was struck by a freighter of the Evansville and Illinois Railway last Friday. He was en route to Evansville to enlist in the army when the accident occurred. Funeral at his mother Mrs Lucy Brown's home in North Main Street at 10 tomorrow. burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.
William Ranery of the miners scale committee said he went to Terre Haute and Annapolis for talks with John L. Lewis and Gov. Goodrich on coal for state institutions. He indicated a 14 percent wage increase would be accepted soon if no further increase is granted, while keeping a calm stance.
Secretary Lansing released a note denouncing Mexico’s reply as mere excuses and demanding the immediate release of William O. Jenkins, American consular agent held in Puebla. The note accuses Mexico of using perjury charges and third degree methods, and flags a planned afternoon conference to outline U.S. negotiations with Mexico.
William O Jenkins declares innocence in an exclusive Puebla jail statement. He says his books show prosperity and denies ransom money, expects transfer to federal court, and vows to fight the charges amid international developments.
A Carranza force concentration along the north border of Mexico was reported with 1500 reinforcements at Okinaga opposite Presidio Texas since the Jenkins affair escalated. Loyalists replace the War a garrison at disputed Carmuza area and troops mass at several other points.
In El Paso on December 1 a report circulated that William O. Jenkins was freed from Penbla jail. Mexican Commander Garcia said he heard the claim in Juarez and traced it to a Mexican newspaper, fueling cross border chatter.
Coal hauled through the city from the Southern railroad was released for use at the Methodist hospital and several Patoka township schools. The city schools have only a one week supply and colder weather threatens fuel shortages while coal dealers seek coke options. Miners face fuel scarcity after the strike.
A miner stated on Sunday that his family survives on a soup diet with three meals daily. He claimed the diet sustains them amid hardship and outlines their frugal eating pattern.

Mrs Hattle Felty hosted an informal dinner for Hazel Spencer who is studying at Bloomington. Ten guests were served as yellow pompom chrysanthemums and narcissus adorned the room. Attending were Miss Hazel Spencer and other guests including Miss Francis Martin Helen Kenedy Irene Cockriel Gertarde Spencer and Messrs George Funk Lucius Alvis Walter Eskew E D Catt of Akron and Farl Woods of West Frankfort Ti.
