Bright Skies Herald reports the big fair opening with opening ceremonies, livestock shows, horse and cattle judging, and a parade. Veterans and their wives gain free admission, auto races and circus performances planned, band concerts, and extensive displays from Purdue and International Harvester. The grounds feature hogs, sheep, cattle, and a large plant and equipment exhibit with multiple auto brands on view.
French minister of war calls for cadet and reserve reinforcements as forces withdraw to avoid engagement on unfavorable ground. Germany claims 490,000 Russians killed and 70,000 prisoners at Allenstein, while Russians say they are not seriously checked. Czar renames St. Petersburg Petrograd, Vienna reports 3,000,000 men engaged along a 400 mile Russian Prussian Austrian front.
In Pearl Harbor the submarine F-4, damaged March 25 and towed to dry dock, lay exposed as crews scrape mud and sand from its interior. Four officers entered the hull to search for bodies but saw no sign of sailors. A possible earlier corpses washed out during surfacing. two to three days more work expected to clear debris.
William C. Lawrence and Joseph Scott, longtime rural carriers for Beyrelon Post Office, resign effective August 31. Both men, aged about 70, leave after decades of daily routes in all weather. Temporary carriers O B Wirth and James Sturgis take over the two routes as regular appointments proceed.

A Carl Hagenbeck-Wallace circus train entourage reached Princeton early Tuesday bringing 22 tents and a full city setup. The parade roared through downtown with elephants, natives, and bands while the grounds opened for inspection and a huge crowd enjoyed the opener before an evening show and a midnight departure to Sullivan.
Charles G. Seifert editor of the Washington Herald rode the Carl Hagenbeck Wallace circus train from Vincennes to Princeton. He joined a party of friends and stayed for the parades eating peanuts and lemonade. He has many circus friends and previously toured with the show for two weeks. He may become the circus press representative next season.
Mr and Mrs Sylvester A Rollin will celebrate their Golden Anniversary marking fifty years of marriage. They invite friends to their home at 324 West State Street Monday from 9 am to 9 pm to call and welcome attendees. Relatives and those who attended the wedding will gather 9 to 11 am, with Archer Post G A R and The W R C invited 2 to 3 pm. no special invitations issued.
Louis Hyatt a 22 year old member of the wild west show at the fair grounds Montana rode a horse when an automobile struck him near the fair grounds Monday afternoon. He sustained a severely sprained ankle and was thrown under the car as the horse fell. The driver of the car is not identified.
Rev. G. M. Smith will not attend the First Methodist Church event this evening. The quarterly conference and preaching service will be held at a later time and the time will be announced so all members may attend.
