Belgium replies to the British reparations note seeking to bridge Franco British tensions. It favors discreet conversations between ministers over formal notes and says it will not accept further cuts in its share of payments from Germany. It regrets a prior conciliatory proposal failed to justify a joint Allied reply.
In San Diego pilots Capt. Towell H. Smith and Lieut. John Richter faced a scare when their lead-laden buck et of two blackberry pies nearly toppled during a 2,500 kilometer endurance attempt. A gust lifted the craft, Richter hung onto the bucket, planes avoided disaster, and the crew continued their record bid with mid-air refueling and rapid provisioning.
Roy Alfred Crow, 2 1/2, of 1008 Pear Street, died at St Marys hospital Evansville Sunday at 10 45 a m after injuries from a fall at Schneck clubhouse over river railing to rocks below. He served in the navy during WWI and worked as express messenger for American Express. Funeral from his home Wednesday at 3 p m.

The Princeton Advertising Club and Automobile Dealers announce a Fall Opening and Automobile Show for Thursday to Saturday September dates. Visitors from Southwestern Indiana invited. merchants to decorate, model demonstrations by apparel and jewelry dealers, band concerts daily except Saturday, and evolving attractions managed by the advertising club.
Roy Compton of Keensburg caused a two car crash three miles out when the Indiana driver crowded him into a ditch. In Mount Carmel he struck Walter Hill after pursuing him on Market street. Compton pled guilty to assault with a $10 fine and costs. Hill’s driving case was dismissed after a hearing.
Lee Houser, a 28 year old farmer near Hagerstown Maryland, says a box he dug up on the Brownsville Weaverton road held between 100000 and 110000 in bills plus about 10000 in gold coins. C S Wheeler claims the fortune for his ten year old son Howard as the first finder and says Houser seized the box.
Ensign Jerankl L. Olmstead, 1922 honor man at Annapolis, dies of infantile paralysis on the eve of his marriage. His parents Col. and Mrs. Ernest Olmstead of Des Moines attend burial in Newark after he fell ill while stationed on the battleship Wyoming at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Olmstead was part of a notable naval family with brothers at West Point and Annapolis.
Chicago August 2 American Agriculture suffers from an overabundance of 30 day farmers who focus on wheat. Guy Huston president of the American Association of Joint Stock Banks says diversification would ease the problem. He notes that more than half of U S farms are debt free and nine in ten borrowers meet obligations. Governor R A Cooper advocates cooperation among banks on land appraisal and bond distribution.

William Toelle a local contractor Mrs Toelle and their daughters Miss Selma Toelle and Mrs Lula Martin plus Mrs Martins son Charles narrowly escaped serious injury when their car left a 25-foot embankment four miles north of Worthington Indiana Monday evening. The party had been visiting Armin Toelle of Goshert and were en route home. They left the wrecked car at Worthington for repairs and returned home by train.
