Rufus McGillem and his wife were badly injured when their car skidded on gravel on a curve north of Patoka. Mrs McGillem was found unconscious and may have internal injuries while Mr McGillem suffered severe leg lacerations and facial injuries.
At the Indiana Conference of the United Brethren church Rev. S. H. Lutes of French Lick was elected district superintendent. The conference reported no deaths in the year and noted new churches at Devker and Newborn, a completed Linton church, and plans for Petersburg and Plainville churches, plus remodeling of the Princeton church.
Battery E, from Camp Knox encampment, moved into a newly completed Armory in Mt Vernon Ind. on Sunday afternoon. The $30,000 building is expected to be dedicated on Labor Day as a public event.

Gibson County teachers institute convenes Monday at Princeton High School Auditorium with a strong Chautauqua style program. Noted instructors from Illinois Indiana and Nebraska will present daily sessions beginning at 9:45 AM and 1 PM. Saturday August 25 includes teachers examination at Lowell School with licensing requirements for grades seven and eight and domestic science and agriculture.
Colleen Moore, noted film actress, selected John Emmett McCormick ex-First National executive as her husband, asserting this will be her only marriage. The couple plans to wed after Moore signed a long term First National contract with no marriage clause. Rumors link Marie Prevost to divorce and possible marriage to Kenneth Harlan.
Four Gibson county students completed Purdue University summer school which closed August 15. Total enrollment reached 347, about 100 more than last year, signaling growth as Purdue expands degree work. From Gibson were Owensville-Fletcher Jaques and Howard A. McCarty, Oakland City Emma Langford, and Princeton Mary H. Morrow. Fall semester begins September 12.
Mrs Pat Neal arrested in Eldorado on a charge of attempting to murder Mrs John McGuire by running her down with a car was released on a 3000 bond. She claimed the incident was accidental and that the brakes failed.

Police found a gallon and a half of alleged white mule in William Mans room on Thursday morning and he was arrested. Mans was placed under $560 bond awaiting Mayor Niemceier's return to the city.

Ernest Woods, 19, Owensville, appeared before Justice of Peace John Stankel and was fined 10 dollars and costs on a petit larceny charge. He allegedly stole two wrist watches from Mrs. Roy Gudgel. the watch was found at a jewelry store in Fort Carmel after Woods had given it to a repair girl.
Roy Kochenderfer a 29 year old railway fireman drowned Tuesday afternoon when he fell through the glass bottom of a boat on Hutchinson Lake three miles east of Vandalia Michigan. A companion's efforts to aid him failed.
Twenty two passengers were injured three seriously when four coaches of the Winnipeg Flyer on the Soo derailed west of Mapleton Anandaale Minn last night.
