Washington August 20 Officials say a coal dictator will be named within 24 hours to set prices from mines to consumers and oversee distribution. Coal operators favor Robert S. Lovett as the power holder while miners want W B Colver of the FTC. A sharp price cut to the American home is anticipated.
J Edgar Mauck sold his 100 acre Center township farm to William E McConnell for 10000 dollars. Deeds were filed this week making it one of the county's largest transfers in value and illustrating typical Gibson county farm land worth.
In Indianapolis on Aug 20 the annual open state tennis tournament began with a smaller field due to wartime constraints but drew many of the state’s rising talents and top players.

In Francisco Indiana a boy named Slater was struck by a car driven by Co. T Downey while waiting near Hubbard's barber shop. He suffered severe facial and head injuries and was taken home for medical care. Downey was not blamed as the vehicle was moving slowly.
Dr J Birdsell and Louis I Cherry former members of exemption board 89 pleaded guilty to violating the draft law. They were sentenced to two years in Atlanta prison and fined 10000 each, fines later remitted. Government said it would not take tainted money and judge called the offense heinous.
