Only one inquiry was made at the Princeton post office about government food purchases via parcel post starting Monday. The limited blank lists and unclear department instructions deterred orders, with clerks at the office offering rates and potential savings and advising patrons to inspect lists in the lobby for accuracy.
Local retailer touts lightweight summer clothing as a remedy for August heat and legal stress. Michaels Stern two piece suits advertised from $265 down to $35 with accompanying cooler undergarments and hosiery.
President Wilson told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at the White House that the Senate must accept the treaty and league covenant as they stand with no amendments or reservations or face total rejection. He warned that any change would force reacceptance by the allies and Germany.

Lieuts G Peterson and Paul Davis were released on payment of 15000 dollars and reached the U S side at El Paso Texas. Captain Matlock and a cavalry detachment escorted the money carrier to the bandits camp and back with David Peterson. The ransom reimbursement is to be made by the U S government.
Williams E. Daughtery sells his north Hart street tin shop to a Snyder of the city. Snyder took possession Monday morning.
At the regular meeting the Princeton council accepted M S Metzger Co for general concrete sidewalk construction at 142 per square yard with extra excavating costs. A street sweeping bid went to Jack Hall at 27 75. Residents petitioned to extend fire limits two blocks from the square. Police and watchmen will be provided for fair week safety. A proposed tax levy of about 8500 to fund street oiling by general taxation was discussed with state tax hearing set for August 30.
London policy shift aims to unify and reorganize the coal industry while removing import restrictions from September. Premier Lloyd George cites a large trade deficit and warns production must rise to compete with American imports. In Trinidad a coal shaft explosion kills eighteen miners, twelve bodies recovered with six remaining. Mrs Grace Frenette joins White Lumber company offices.

Central Labor Union and Gibson County fair association organize a monster parade led by N C Blake with assistants Sherman Davis and I A Bee. Features include horse races free attractions music an Italian band and a reception committee to ensure visitor enjoyment.
A local Labor Day message invites residents to enjoy a free fair at the grounds. The fair association and Central Labor Union sponsor the day to provide entertainment and encourage attendees to forget troubles and bring friends to celebrate on Monday September 1.
