A powerful typhoon struck Hong Kong last night causing extensive damage to shipping. A British submarine was sunk with one survivor reported. several Chinese and Japanese vessels were wrecked as the storm reached record velocity in the harbor.
A wave of brutal whippings occupied authorities in Georgia Oklahoma and Texas. Five arrests were made in Amarillo for alleged involvement in flogging F E McDonald. In Wichita Falls five men were detained for beating Louie Davis. Oklahoma Governor Walden faced threats as martial law spread around Tulsa amid rumors of staged flogging parties. Millard Trouten’s mutilated body was found in a creek with five arrests in the case.
Dr. T L Lockhart returns home from St Marys hospital in Evansville after three weeks. Farm Bureau Camp visitors from Vanderburg county and local residents, including the Yeagers, Montgomeries, and Lockharts, are mentioned with several short outings and visits to relatives.

The Owensville Star Echo reports Montgomery township paid about $35,000 bonus for two daily passenger mail trains on the Ft. Branch Mt Vernon line. The C E I has cut to one freight train daily, removing promised passenger service and unreliable mail. Township to notify the railroad and pursue restoration of trains or refund. lawyers handling the case.
E. O. Steihm longtime Indiana University athletic director and coach died at his Bloomington home from stomach cancer. Known as Jumbo he earlier resigned active coaching due to illness and had coached at Wisconsin Nebraska and Indiana. He leaves two widows two children a brother and his parents. burial set for Johnson Creek Wisconsin.
A delegation from Steubenville warns Governor Donahey of possible bloodshed after rioting between locals and Ku Klux Klan members. They report grave danger of further trouble as hardware stores run short on firearms and ammo amid the unrest.

Word reached William Peters of 1031 south Gibsoa street about the death of his sister Miss Ailene Peters Friday at 6 pm in Mt. Carmel at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Peters. Peters had visited here and leaves many mourners. The funeral is set for Sunday at 4 30 pm at the parental home. Mr. and Mrs. William Peters and son Bullie traveled to Mt. Carmel Saturday to attend.
The Patoka ball club faces Oakland City Sunday afternoon at Riverside Park. The Patoka battery features Kolb and Reese. Fans are advised it will be a good contest and should attend.

Indianapolis Aug 18 Terre Haute police sought help in finding the killer of Robert Watson a high school student stabbed to death in an alley near his home. A man matching the description of the assailant allegedly asked for a lot on the national road between Indianapolis and Terre Haute Thursday afternoon court clerk Roland Crew reported.
