Residents of South Seminary Street plan to confront a peeping tom as police monitor several night sightings. A well known local woman reported seeing a man at her window while tending a baby. he fled before an alarm could be raised. Several residents have observed similar prowling during evenings.
Ralph Finney of East S Louis is visiting his parents Sir and Mrs Thomas Finney on South Prince Street for a family stay.
The examination of the second draft batch in Gibson county began early today with 112 more men checked for quota. Exemption claims appear high with two thirds likely to be filed. district board review possible on appeals. Local board to rule on exemptions for married men and those with dependents.
About 15 to 20 members of Company M arrived home Friday night on a 48 hour leave to visit home folks. Orders are expected for the company to depart for Hattiesburg Mississippi to enter training. The Army has issued orders permitting fare well visits before leaving. More men are expected home in the coming days.
Former Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks will arrive in Princeton with his party for a full day of hospital activities. The visit includes two addresses on the Indianapolis Methodist hospital work, a possible patriotic evening, and the transfer of deeds to the hospital.
Washington August 18 President Wilson moved to take prompt direct action in the coal situation. He will act next week likely authorizing the federal trade commission to fix prices from mine to consumer but not take over mines. Enforcing the priority shipping bill may force coal shipments to the great lakes region within 48 hours.

Vague dispatches state an explosion damaged a plant and left a number of dead with hospitalizations possibly reaching 250. Trains were rushed from Montreal as authorities sought definite information on casualties and cause.
A series of blasts at the Curtiss Harvey ammunition works in Dragon Quebec killed at least 20 people and injured hundreds. The plant employed about 600 workers. rail service nearby was disrupted and a hospital train ferried doctors and nurses to the scene.
Governor Goodrich today withheld a call for an extra session due to delays in finalizing about 11 bills. He said the proclamation will come when the bills are ready, likely early next week.

Indiana mourns former U S Senator John W Kern who died last night in Asheville North Carolina after an attack of uremic poisoning. The 68 year old Indiana leader was majority leader in the Senate and retired from politics in March. Kern was born December 20 1849 and moved with his family to Warren County Iowa before teaching in Alto.
The subject began practice in Kokomo at age 20 and gained a reputation as a leading Indiana criminal lawyer. He served as city attorney of Kokomo and Indianapolis, was elected reporter of the Indiana Supreme Court in 1882 for four years, ran for governor in 1900 and 1904 unsuccessfully, was Williams Jennings Bryan's running mate in 1908, and sought the U.S. Senate multiple times, including defeats by Harry S. New in the 1910s.
Edgar Mauck and his family, long dwelling on their farm east of the city, have now moved into their new residence on East Water Street.
