A mob of about 50 000 gathered around a Marietta tree and lynched Leo M. Frank after his conviction in the Mary Phagan murder. The crowd toppled the body and then pursued authorities. Governor Harris condemned the act as a grave wrong.
Milledgeville Ga Warden Y J M Burke describes mob seizure of Leo M Frank at the prison farm. He testifies two men restrained him while four others held guards and two shotguns. Frank was dragged from the building and lynched in minutes, groaning in pain as his guards and captors moved him outside.
A transfer company driver, Virgil Churchman, collided with the Spencer grocery yard injuring him after a steering failure on a noon run. He was taken to a physician for treatment. witnesses helped recover the vehicle and he expressed frustration at the incident. Churchman, son of William Churchman, had prior driving experience.
The city council on Monday night adopted a resolution to study and begin building several miles of new concrete sidewalks. The plan calls for sidewalks along Emmerson Street from Hart to Race, Race Street from Oak to Ohio, Ohio Street north side from Stout to Main, Gibson Street from Oak to Ohio, and Prince Street from Emmerson to State, with preliminary steps authorized and the city attorney to draft the formal order.

Miss Catherine Sams of Evansville wed Forrest Smith in a Saturday ceremony at J A Sprowl’s office. The bride, cousin of Mrs Herman McGregor, visited relatives at 219 East Lendale. The groom, an inspector at Hercules Bugsy Factory, joined her in Evansville. A second ceremony tied Emily Kitchen of Haubstadt to Bert White of Owensville on Monday evening at a family home. Ada Weathery served as attendant. the groom’s father is a local engineer paralleled by Williams family connections.
The council heard three remonstrances against the alley plan asDr. R. S. Anderson Dr. M. Hollingsworth and George Wehling challenged benefits and damages. Anderson valued damages at $50 while contesting benefit of $75. Hollingsworth claimed the alley would not harm his office and others noted ingress exist. A sidewalk petition on Race Street from Broadway to Ohio Street was filed by many property owners.
