Kansas will reduce wheat acreage by about 50 percent next year due to low prices and cash seed costs. Indiana plans a large cut this fall from 2,200,000 to about 1,240,000 acres, per agricultural reports and expert George Bryant.
Washington August 16 The department of agriculture said a canvass of 25 000 farmers on August 1 shows a 13 5 percent decline or 7 177 000 acres in the area farmers plan to sow in winter wheat this fall versus last year The crop reporting board says the figure is a forecast based on intentions and may change.
Gov. W H McMaster, after pressuring the Mitchell supply depot, agrees with independent oil jobbers to raise state gasoline price from 16 to 20 cents a gallon. The move follows a 6.6 cent cut by Standard Oil of Indiana, and sets the new rate at independent stations statewide beginning Saturday. The prior average retail price, road tax included, was 25.6 cents.
Savannah Ga August 16 A van is held at the Marine barracks at Paris Island for the killing Monday of Private George F Sellers of Bedford Indiana. Military officers would not detail the shooting or provide further information. The case was referred to Washington It was reported Sellers was shot by a corporal.

Chicago August 16 Charles Chick Evans top golfer says he gave Dr J Moore a seven thousand five hundred dollar check to help him obtain bank credit. The check for 7500 bounced No Funds as Evans explains he never owed Moore that amount and withdrew loan application after improper handling.
In Steubenville Ohio a mob of about 3000 citizens attacked 100 Ku Klux Klan members after a city primary. Darwin Gibson was wounded fatally while others were injured as the Klansmen arrived from West Virginia in a caravan of 25 cars.
