The gasoline price war spreads from the Midwest as Standard Oil cuts 6.6 cents per gallon. East coast and Midwest firms report reductions up to 2 cents, sparking heavy buying as motorists stock up for present and future needs. Governors see it as price crushing by Standard to curb independent operators.
Damages from automobile accidents prompt expected rise in litigation. Fred H. Korb sues William A. Plarnett of Owensville for 300 dollars, seeking 150 dollars for car damage and 150 for time lost. Materials are arriving at Patoka Indiana for a new Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad bridge over the Patoka river. The structure will permit heavier engines on this division and is slated for completion before winter with workers arriving soon.

Ralph Onyett aged 16 died Tuesday afternoon at Methodist hospital from injuries in a Sunday auto wreck three miles north of Patoka. Funeral planned for Thursday at 3 PM in Hazleton. he leaves parents two brothers and two sisters. Leona Davidson, first victim of the crash, was buried in Vincennes. Gladys Davidson remains hospitalized with a guarded prognosis.
In New York on August 15 Norma Talmadge’s lookalike contest yielded Lily Christie as the top contender among several Philadelphia applicants. Christie won a dressing room beside Norma Talmadge, a salary, and a role in the star’s upcoming film, though she does not appear in the final part. The lineup includes Muriel Hedes Sophie Howard Thelma Bradley Vivian Page Lucetty Parker and Lily Christie.
The first Wednesday Bargain Day in Princeton drew crowds despite heat. Hundreds of cars crowded the courthouse square and surrounding streets as shoppers from various distances filled stores. The Advertising Club movement appears to be delivering strong trade benefits through planned promotions.
Mrs Louise J Foster aged 89 died Tuesday at her daughter Mrs Fannie Stewart's home after four months illness. Funeral service Thursday at 10 am at General Baptist church conducted by Rev I J Turner of Francisco. Burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Survived by daughter Mrs Stewart and son James D Foster of Chicago. Former resident of Enon church community.

Miss Edith Ross announces a bone clinic at Methodist hospital next Wednesday August 22 from 9 am to 4 pm for children up to 15 with crippling bone defects and for others by arrangement. Dr John H Oliver of Indianapolis will join this effort. later cases may go to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mr Nusbaum of the state tax board leads hearings on citizen appeals against local assessments at the Princeton court house. About twenty appeals cover all grades of assessments. The coal companies of Gibson county will present their cases on Thursday before board representatives.
Lieut Carter M Kolb of Company M 10th Infantry US Army is placed in charge of guards for President Harding s tomb until a mausoleum is built. The Princeton Indiana native, son of Mr and Mrs O M Kolb, will lead twenty five specially selected soldiers sent from Fort Hayes to Marion Oregon with tents and mess. They departed by truck and will stay in Marion for an extended period.
The U S coal commission will separate meetings with miners and operators over the anthracite dispute. Five members will meet Mine Workers President Lewis and delegates at 2 pm, then later meet operators. The plan includes mediation by the government to avoid a walkout and ensure fuel substitutes if needed. A separate note warns Indiana utilities to stock extra coal due to winter shortages and possible strikes.
In Anderson Indiana on August 15 coroner Jesse A Herbert rules Seth Ward a federal prohibition officer exonerated in the death of Elisha B Northcutt a 55 year old former police captain. Ward and Clarence Baker pursued Northcutt after he resisted and drew a loaded revolver during the investigation. The coroner notes the case remains open for court or grand jury review.
At Kemmerer Coal Company mine 137 men were entombed after a gas blast and cave in. Ninety seven bodies were recovered and eighty six removed, many charred beyond recognition as rescue efforts battled poisonous fumes and a broken ventilation system.
Eamon De Valera surrendered to Irish Free State troops after a political meeting. He fainted on stage as troops in an armored car arrived firing volleys over the crowd. Former Irish republic president was marched to a military barracks amid dwindling followers.
The Princeton Tigers travel to Cynthiana to face one of the region's fastest teams. Cynthiana were Posey county league runners-up before dropping out. Franklin Burke a semi pro hurler will start for Princeton with Shoulders behind the plate as the lineup aims for a real baseball battle after two weeks idle.
The Consumers Ice and Coal Co. opens in Princeton with A. C. Ellison in charge on south Hall street. A storage house is being built on Monroe street near Hall and Hart streets by the railroad. Evansville ice will be handled and delivery starts Thursday.
