Nashville Tenn Aug 11 Suffragists won the first fight for ratification of the federal amendment in the Tennessee legislature today A house resolution to postpone action was tabled Suffragists accused anti suffragists of trying to delay action in the session of the Tennessee General Assembly.
In Nashville on August 11 anti suffragists moved to delay a state suffrage amendment. A resolution calls for mass meetings in county seats on August 24 to hear public opinion. Senate consideration might seek outsiders to stay away as Governor Cox weighs involvement.
A crew with teams works at the Princeton coal mine to dig a new reservoir for boiler water. The older reservoir is too small, while the new one will be substantially larger and shallow. Water will be drawn from the Princeton Water Company and stored for steam use, despite large mine pumps drawing river water as well.
Jack Dempsey will fight Bill Brenhen before January 1 under an agreement signed by their managers in New York. The bout is likely to be staged in New York at a venue offering the best inducements and return could go to club with strongest offer.
Governor Cox travels as a private citizen from Dayton to Columbus then Camp Perry as part of his path toward the U.S. presidency. In Indiana, 200 delegates greet Cox on August 19 for a Democratic rally during the midsummer meeting of the Indiana Democratic Editorial Association.
Marion Ohio August 11 Senator Harding's front porch campaign plan remains unchanged after a party review at headquarters. Will Hays national chairman says most addresses will be delivered at Marion with rare exceptions for special events. Harry Daugherty adds unanimous support and notes Cox's whirlwind campaign will not alter the decision.
Northern Indiana farmers arrive for the annual meeting of the Farmers' Association of Northern Indiana. The gathering aims to strengthen ties with city residents, with Kosciusko county committees raising funds and offering prizes to the largest delegation. Many plan to stay through Sunday for Billy Sunday's auditorium dedication.
Gus Fichter a barber in the Reinhart block was injured in a collision with a car at Race and State streets this morning. He rode west on State carrying a ledger and tried to pass the turning automobile. He later felt greater knee pain from the impact.
Princeton youth Arthur Boswell of the Thirtieth Division AEF is awarded a Liberty Medal. The medal hangs from a bar pin with a ribbon in French colors and bears inscriptions for Ypres Somme engagements in which he served.
New York August 11 Gen Salvador Alva redo secretary of the Mexican treasury said Mexico, aided by the United States, will see major growth over the next decade. He noted 75 percent of revenues were used for the army but pledged to cut military spending to fund schools, industries and docks, if funds were available to pay soldiers.
With about half the state’s precincts reporting former Mayor Davis leads Col. Ralph Cole by 936 votes for the Republican gubernatorial nomination. Frank Willis dominates the U S Senate race over Walter F Brown. Vic Donahey runs unopposed for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination and J A Julian appears to win the Democratic senate nomination by a narrow margin.
Judge S. L. Vandeveer announced Lieut. Clarence Rumer as county bailiff to replace the late Richard T. Tingle. Rumer will start August 16 during the Gibson circuit court terms to hear exceptions in the Wabash Patoka levee project. He is a World War II veteran, a law student, and has been admitted to the Gibson County Bar.
The W R C meets Wednesday afternoon at the hall. Cunningham chapel Earnest Workers class plans a Thursday picnic at New Harmony dam. First M E church will host two classes at 7 15 p m. Eloise Welborn hosts a lawn party with 20 girls at her Hart street home. Out of town guests include Nancy Stormont and Pauline Vonnegut. Blanche Fulling hosts a party at East Broadway with Mr and Mrs Herman Vollmer. Albert Vollmer visits from Indianapolis. Charles Whitten honors his birthday with a dinner at Baldwin Heights attended by 25 to 30 relatives and friends.

Washington reported that President Wilson will soon extend material aid to Poland. The aid aims to assure Poland's territorial integrity as part of U S policy on the Russian Polish situation. A note to the Italian ambassador outlines the government's policy in response to Rome's inquiry.
Germantown Ohio plans a twin notification for Prohibition nominees Aaron Watkins for president and D Leigh Colvin for vice president. A parade speeches and a fireworks display will mark the event as locals honor the party leaders from nearby and far. Watkins, born 1867 near Aushylvania, was a former Methodist preacher and Ohio gubernatorial candidate. Colevin is based in New York and will be notified by Francis Beauchamp.
The National Soldiers' Home at Marion Indiana will be closed and the buildings repurposed as a vocational training school for disabled veterans of the world war. Civil War and Spanish American War veterans are already being moved to other homes, changing local politics in Grant County. The school will be fully equipped in weeks to train World War I veterans in various trades, aiming to prepare them for work rather than charity.
The marriage occurred this morning at 11 o clock at the office of Raube Mortén. Both are residents of Washington township. John Wise, father of the bride, accompanied them.
Fred Sims warns Indiana county boards of review that overturning state board horizontal assessments will trigger new county-wide increases. Shelby Johnson Boone and Hancock counties had set aside earlier increases, while 35 counties approved last year. Local boards fear futher rulings and some counties seek ratification to sustain revenue needs.
Oliver Robinson, 15, son of Mr and Mrs Carl Robinson, southwest of town, lost his right foot in a threshing accident at John Ross farm near a grain elevator. A loose rod and punch caused his leg injury. he was amputated at Dr Sams hospital in Clarion. He died Saturday night at 8:30. Funeral was in Kanawaha Iowa. The Robinsons were formerly Francisco residents.
Nathan S. Martin, 88, died Thursday at his son William Martin’s home in Oakland City from apoplexy due to old age. A corporal in Company F of the Forty-second Indiana Volunteers, he lived with his son for years. Funeral services were held Saturday at Providence Church, with Elder James Crane presiding, burial in Providence Cemetery.
The Mackey State bank opened for business Monday with a capital of 25000. Officers include John Yaser as president, AD Graper as vice president, and BJ Hammer among the staff.
Two marble artists are installing interior marble panels in the Farmers National Bank at Broadway and Hart street. They fit slabs with hidden seams, using edge dressing and specialized tools. Morristown slabwork includes gray Tennessee floor marble and Napoleon gray wainscoting from Carthage Missouri.
At the Heinz factory south of the city workers are raising a large brick smoke stack that will reach 150 feet. The stack features brick with a contrasting color spelling Heinz and 57 Varieties on opposite sides, visible from far away as a bold advertising feature.
