Bootlegger Reed Killed by Officers Near Oakland City
Floyd Reed 24 of Oakland City was shot and killed by Marshal Putnam Richardson and Deputy Samson Hopkins while attempting to arrest him on warrants for wife beating and bootlegging at the Jo Jamison home near Mur eu five miles east. Reed drew a shotgun and revolver, firing at officers as they closed in. he fled 100 yards before dying from liver and arm wounds. Johnson, suspected of beating his wife, escaped. authorities hunt him. Reed had prior intoxication charges and a 6 year sentence for ravishing his sister in law.
