George W Downer died at his home 922 Railroad Street at 2:80 am after a cancer illness. He was 69 and had been ill two years, five weeks bedridden. Funeral at 10:16 am Monday from his residence, Rev L T Freeland officiating. Burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Survived by widow, son John A Downer, daughter Mrs Stanley Everly, and sister Mrs Emma F Bailey of Kalamazoo. He came to Princeton in 1899 and was well known locally.

Examinations In Small Court Room For Conscription Men
The conscription board will hold examinations for 388 registered men in the small court room on the second floor of the courthouse Monday Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 AM. Those seeking exemptions are advised not to file until after examinations. The government provides two men to assist with affidavits free of charge and attorneys Sanford Timppet and R C Baltzeil have been appointed notaries for this service. The government will also have men on hand to hear appeals on exemptions filed.
